Running back Cam Skattebo is off to a promising start after returning from a season-ending injury, but his disciplinary history continues to follow him. Despite missing most of his rookie season, the New York Giants star was fined multiple times by the league in 2025, and now he has once again found himself facing NFL discipline this season.

On Saturday, NFL reporter Jordan Raanan reported that the league has fined Skattabo for “illegal helmet contact on a running play.”

The incident took place during the Giants’ 12-7 Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans on September 27. While the league didn’t disclose the exact snap or release the fine amount in the reporting so far, the development gained momentum after the Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons specifically called out Skattabo’s helmet usage.

“I mean, he’s already a compact player,” said Simmons. “A guy like me trying to get off a block, and then guys like that, he’s going to lower his pads. I think a couple times he did lower his helmet, which I thought was a point of emphasis in this league, especially with running backs. Because if we lower our helmet (on defense), we’re going to get flagged for it.”

Cam Skattabo, meanwhile, offered a different assessment of Simmons following the matchup.

“Jeffery Simmons is on the other side of the ball, and you try to trap him — he’s an animal,” the back acknowledged. “He wrecked a couple plays, and shout-out to him, man. He’s a respected player in this league. He destroyed some plays.”

However, this isn’t the first time the league has disciplined the second-year Giants running back. In his rookie season, Skattebo was first fined $15,000 by the NFL for violating the league’s concussion protocol during the Giants’ Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL and NFLPA jointly reviewed the incident involving quarterback Jaxson Dart, who went down with a hit. However, while Dart was being evaluated for a possible concussion inside the blue medical tent on the Giants’ sideline, coach Brian Daboll and Skattabo approached the tent to speak with Dart, despite the concussion protocol restricting access to medical personnel during an evaluation.

Subsequently, the league fined the Giants $200,000, while Daboll and Skattabo faced fines of $100,000 and $15,000, respectively. A week later, Skattebo also received a $6,157 fine for unnecessary roughness in the fourth quarter of a Week 7 matchup. The league described it as the infraction “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing.”

And now, he’s been fined again in 2026. That said, the Giants will now face the Arizona Cardinals at home with a major change on the offense. With Dart ruled out with a season-ending injury, New York has acquired JJ McCarthy, giving Cam Skattebo a new quarterback under center.
