The NY Giants are in the best place for the 2025 NFL draft. Everyone earlier thought that they would go for a quarterback in the draft. But the fates of NFL players are intertwined. Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston joined the team. And they are now trying to draft someone other than the QBs. Or the GM Joe Schoen might have a completely fresh strategy in mind. There are only two non-QB top prospects in this draft, Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter and Penn State DE Abdul Carter.

The NFL insiders sat down to discuss the future of the NFC East franchise. Ian Rapoport also talked about the draft and said, “Historically, if someone has traded up, it is for a quarterback. Except in this draft, we have a couple elite players, Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter, that might make a team come up and trade.

He also named 4 teams that might trade up:  Jaguars (5th) , Raiders (6th), Jets (7th), Panthers (8th), before hinting at the Saints (9th) as well. By all means, they want to stay in the top 10. He quashed rumors that the Patriots (4th) might also move up one place.

However, they may also want some additional picks this year or in the next few years in a trade. That might be an ideal scenario. Abdul Carter has already raised his stock in this year’s draft by claiming that the defense is equally important. “So, I feel like just saying that seeing how defensive players can take over a game, we’re just like a quarterback,” he said a few days ago.

There are concerns as well. The NFL teams want to know the exact rehab scenario of his shoulder injury. Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN last month that the DE might do a private workout in mid-April. But the Browns might snap others’ dreams in half by drafting him alongside Myles Garrett.

It leaves only one option, Travis Hunter. The dual-threat quarterback can play on both sides of the field. But the NY Giants GM gave his stance.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the Giants' gamble on Travis Hunter's dual skills pay off, or is it a risky move?

Joe Schoen is ready to use dual skills for Travis Hunter

We’re in a unique position that we have three good receivers, and we like our secondary right now. So our situation will be unique. I would not be afraid to play him on both sides of the ball.” the NY Giants GM Joe Schoen told reporters while discussing the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner.

That’s the path they have to take. But it wouldn’t be easy for Travis Hunter. The NFL is way competitive than college football. He managed it well in the 3 seasons of college football. In 29 starts, he recorded 167 receptions for 2,061 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown. Moreover, on the defensive side, he tallied 9 interceptions, 22 passes defended, and 80 tackles (58 solo).

The approach is in stark contrast to the Giants legend Michael Strahan. He urged the HC Brian Daboll to use the Colorado WR in the offense as a wide receiver. But Joe Schoen didn’t pay attention to the Super Bowl winner. With Russell Wilson in the center, the NFC East franchise is aiming for a turnaround this year. They want to win the Super Bowl. Will their moves work? We’ll find out soon.
