It all unraveled when podcaster Justin Spiro revealed the allegations from the unnamed victim, along with the entire timeline of incidents since July 2024. After confirming their investigation into the allegations on Friday, the team released its firing decision within hours.
“The Atlanta Falcons have dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis from his role,” the Falcons said via a statement on their website. At the Combine, he deflected any questions and called the victim 39 times in a span of 28 minutes from his hotel room at the JW Marriott before she hung up. His bio on the team site was quickly scrubbed as well, given the sensitivity of the claims made.

Let’s begin from the beginning.
What we know so far
The victim and Lewis met in July 2024 through an online dating app and continued a long-distance relationship for five months. In November, as she traveled to Green Bay for a Packers game with her friends, Lewis allegedly tracked her down, sending threats. This was before Lewis demanded money and gifts from her, which reportedly totaled approximately $25,000.

His behavior also changed, and communications quickly escalated into threats of physical and sexual violence.
The two finally met in person in an Ann Arbor hotel room on December 5, 2024, where she traveled for a work-related event. He guised the meeting as if he was returning all the things she had sent him. Instead, that was the first time he assaulted her. The incident becomes worse when Sherrone Moore, the then-head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, comes in.

Since the victim knew Moore personally, she informed him of Lewis’ act, including a photo of him sleeping in the hotel bed. However, she was told to report the incident herself. Since the Wolverines’ coach allegedly failed to report the incident, he violated his duty as a mandated reporter under Title IX. Moore’s attorney has since denied these allegations.

For the victim, the assault continued.
On January 4, 2025, he traveled to Jane’s apartment in Milford, MI. When the neighbors hear the physical violence and all the noise, they alert the police. When the police arrived, she denied any problem with Lewis, only revealing that he was a football coach.

However, she did reach out to Moore once again, who, instead of helping her, used the information as a weapon. He was fired from the University of Michigan due to the ongoing sign-stealing case. But before that, instead of reporting what Lewis did, Moore recommended him to Toledo, who recruited him before he left for UConn in mid-January this year, and finally landed in Atlanta.
The 32-year-old Lewis hails from Akron, Ohio, and was a star linebacker at Tennessee. He played in two NFL games with the Houston Texans during the 2017 season before shifting to the sidelines.
Starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan, he was later named Toledo’s defensive line coach in 2025. Lewis was then hired by the Falcons earlier this month, where he could’ve helped them improve their defense.

In February 2026, the victim officially filed a petition for a Personal Protection Order against the former coach. Addressing this case, the Ann Arbor Police Department also released a statement confirming the allegation.
“The Ann Arbor Police Department was just recently made aware of allegations regarding a s*xual ass*ult reported to have occurred on December 5, 2024,” strategic communications manager Chris Page said, as per The Athletic. “The AAPD Detective Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the incident. This investigation remains active and ongoing.”
As the investigation into LaTroy Lewis continues, the University of Michigan has also been forced to weigh in. School officials addressed both Moore’s alleged inaction and the wider culture within its athletic department.

University of Michigan comments on allegations about LaTroy Lewis
The Michigan football team is once again facing scrutiny over concerning allegations, with the LaTroy Lewis situation being the second such incident in a few months. In December, the Michigan Wolverines were in the news after dismissing Moore due to claims of an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member. Moore was fired from his coaching position and subsequently arrested for felony third-degree home invasion.
Hence, as the allegations about LaTroy Lewis were made public, Michigan’s assistant vice president of public affairs, Paul Corliss, released an official statement about the case and the larger issues faced by the organization.

“These allegations are deeply concerning. As we have noted, the University launched an investigation of the circumstances and conduct leading to Sherrone Moore’s firing, as well as a broader culture review of the Athletic Department,” Corliss said in a statement shared with the Detroit Free Press.
“We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the law firm conducting the investigation at umconcerns@jenner.com. The work is ongoing, and we will be able to share more when it is completed.”
The investigations into LaTroy Lewis and the broader Michigan athletic department remain ongoing, with no resolution in sight. Moore’s involvement in Lewis’ case only twists the situation further. Until then, both Lewis and the University of Michigan will continue to face serious questions that demand answers.
