Being the number one overall pick in the draft comes with a certain responsibility. And even minor slip-ups can turn fans into the biggest critics. Just look at Caleb Williams -2024’s top pick. He’s been trolled endlessly, with the internet waiting for even the slightest slip-up to throw criticism his way. Now, with Cam Ward looking like he’ll swoop the number one spot this year, is he ready to carry the weight that comes with it? Because once your name is called first, the spotlight doesn’t just shine on you. It follows you everywhere.

And who better to break that down than someone who’s been there? Michael Vick, the No. 1 overall pick in 2001, knows exactly what that pressure feels like. And when asked about Cam Ward, he didn’t sugarcoat what’s ahead. Vick told ESPN, Yeah, I think being the number one pick, you know, when you first arrive in that city, you’re going to feel the energy. You’re instantly going to know why you’re the first pick. You’re going to look at the roster and say, you know, we’ve got to improve. We’ve got to get better.” He is correct. However, he didn’t stop there.

Michael gave Ward a bit of a reality check, reminding him that things won’t be all sunshine and rainbows in the league. “You’re going to feel the responsibility and the onus of, you know, having to be the face of the franchise. And turn the program, the franchise around,” he said. The legendary QB offered the young prospect a dose of hard-earned wisdom, reminding him that the real work starts after the draft night. “And now, when you get in that position, you take full advantage of it. And it’s no days off. You know, it’s time for rest, but it’s no days off,” added Vick.

With Tennessee holding the number one pick, many expect Cam Ward to land there. The QB has also been dropping hints about it lately. Especially when he ditched the Super Bowl champion WR AJ Brown for a Titans WR.

Cam Ward’s draft hints: Titans WR over AJ Brown!

Cam Ward might already be trying to win the hearts of the Tennessee fandom. On Tuesday, in a video game live stream, the 2025’s likely number 1 overall pick was asked about some of his top RBs and his favorite WR. The Miami QB did not shy away from naming Titans Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears. When asked about who his favorite WR is, the 22-year-old said Treylon Burks and Calvin Ridley. Things got interesting when someone mentioned AJ Brown, to which Cam said, “A.J. Brown is a dawg, but he is not Calvin Ridley.” Woah! As Dov Kleiman put it on X, “Cam isn’t even trying to hide it anymore.

Well, AJ Brown is just coming off a fresh Super Bowl win. The Eagles‘ star had another 1,000+ yard season. On the other hand, Calvin Ridley, no doubt, is talented, but is trailing behind Brown. Not to mention all the injuries and suspensions, and an average 2024 season. In the latest season, Ridley finished with 1,017 yards and 4 TDs in 15 games. But we’re not getting into that debate. Everyone can have favorites, and Cam’s favorite is Ridley. So, that’s that.

So, is it just Cam being honest with his answers, or is it that he is siding with his to-be teammates? The Titans have met with the Florida QB, and most of the mock drafts predict them to pick Ward. As per reports, the team has spent a lot of time watching and rewatching Cam’s tapes. The Titans have looked at other options as well, like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Abdul Carter, but they are going to go with Ward.
