Forget Kim Kardashian’s high-end pop drama; Travis Kelce just said ‘nah’ to a massive reality TV offer! That’s right, the Chiefs’ tight end turned down a starring role in Netflix’s upcoming series, Receiver, featuring the league’s top wideouts. While teammate Patrick Mahomes thrived in the Quarterback docuseries last year, Kelce’s charting a different course, with full backing from ex-Cowboy Wiley. 

Former Dallas wide receiver Marcellus Wiley is throwing up a hail mary, defending Kelce’s decision to ditch Netflix’s Receiver. Referring to Kelce’s New Heights podcast with big bro Jason Kelce, Wiley took to his YouTube channel, explaining how “Travis Kelce is doing enough with the podcast.” Guess the 34-year-old’s got bigger fish to fry, and reality TV just doesn’t fit the game plan. 

Wiley’s got a point, saying reality TV could be a bad move for athletes, unlike television personalities. Speaking on the major problem, the ex-WR alludes, “They’re gonna film you, and whatever version you want to show, that’s what they’re gonna show.” But here’s the rub: it’s a back-and-forth about what’s shown and what actually went down, which might even tarnish an athlete’s image.  

The 49-year-old believes Kelce recognized this potential for manipulation. “He doesn’t want to give up the power of his brand to be manipulated by an editor or, worse, y’all, social media.” Basically, Kelce’s calling an audible at the line of scrimmage, choosing to control his own narrative off-field. While the former wideout respects Kelce’s decision, he admits the allure of Receiver was real. “Though it’s a big opportunity,” he said, “because the series is going to highlight five receivers and give them the focus.”

So, is Travis Kelce really missing out? Maybe not. Meanwhile, his QB counterpart dropped F-bombs in the Quarterback series.
