The Philadelphia Eagles are facing significant internal turmoil despite maintaining a 7-2 record, standing at the top of the NFC East.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, “multiple offensive players have grown frustrated with Jalen Hurts’ approach this season, particularly his conservative decision-making against zone coverage.” This discord has reached a breaking point, with receiver A.J. Brown making his discontent public through recent Twitch comments, calling the situation a “s*** show.”

Hurts has become hesitant in tight windows, leaning on checkdowns or scrambles instead of trusting what’s open downfield. This approach itself contradicts the aggressive, pass-first mentality that defined the Eagles’ 2024 Super Bowl campaign, raising concerns.

The statistical evidence supports this concern. Hurts is averaging just 7.7 yards per attempt in 2025, down from 8.0 yards per attempt in 2024. Currently, he has a passer rating of 112.0 and a completion percentage of 68.9%. The troubling part is that he ranks among the lower tier of NFL starters in traditional volume statistics, 21st or lower in passes completed, passes attempted, and passing yards per game.

The Eagles’ offense is struggling as well. Their total offense ranks 23rd at 303.2 yards per game, while their passing offense ranks 25th at 191.7 yards per game, which places them among the league’s worst passing attacks. Only the Jets (139.9), Browns (168.0), Panthers (164.0), and a handful of other struggling offenses trail them.

For A.J. Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler and the engine of Philly’s passing game, this has been a shockingly down year.

It was a far cry from the explosive 121-yard, two-touchdown performance he delivered against Minnesota. On Wednesday, Brown addressed the situation head-on. And instead of softening his stance, he doubled down.

“Week after week, we’re not doing our job as an offense,” he said. “You can’t keep slapping a band-aid over it and expect to win late in the year. I don’t care if I’m misunderstood, we gotta continue to get better.”

Last year, the Eagles bulldozed defenses on the ground, finishing as the league’s No. 2 rushing attack thanks to Saquon Barkley smashing past 2,000 yards. This season, that dominance has evaporated.
