The Miami Dolphins‘ Week-1 outing dares one to think: Was the 2024 season really just an aberration? If anything, the 33-8 embarrassment did not come even remotely close to convincing us otherwise, Tyreek Hill included. Between the offense’s serious lack of deep ball success and Hill personally going a full calendar year without a catch over 30 yards, much remains to be desired. But before he can catch a break, Hill had a TMZ report fanning the flames off the field.

Hours after the game, news flooded in on Hill’s trade possibilities. “I was told in the aftermath of that Week 1 debacle that both the Steelers and the Chiefs are eyeing Tyreek Hill,” said Mike Florio on Rich Eisen Show. “And the Steelers would be crazy to imagine with Tyreek Hill and DK Metcalf with Aaron Rodgers throwing them passes.”

But before all that could go into full effect, Florio addressed how Hill’s ongoing divorce case development may derail any such possibility. “I think that any team that would be interested in trading for Tyreek Hill wants to be sure they’re not trading for a guy that’s going to be suspended before the end of the season,” explained Florio. “So that is a massive complication that wasn’t there when the chatter began of maybe the Chiefs or the Steelers trying to get Tyreek Hill if this Dolphins Week 1 trend continues.” In essence, a relationship that was broken off in April continues to linger, only this time, it might drag on to the gridiron. But how, you’d ask?

Eight instances of domestic violence in the ongoing divorce case between Hill and his estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro, were what the court filings revealed on a Monday read. Per a TMZ report, Vaccaro claims that the first instances of domestic violence began two months into their marriage. “Conduct was extreme,” Vaccaro wrote, alleging Hill also got physical during her pregnancy.

A few other instances when Hill allegedly roughed her up were when the two argued over a postnuptial agreement at their guest house in January 2024 in Southwest Ranches, Fla., at a hotel in Orlando just two weeks later, and another time as they were getting ready to leave for the Pro Bowl on Feb 7, 2024.

Vaccaro further added in the document, it was “outrageous, beyond all bounds of decency, and is regarded as atrocious and utterly intolerable in a civilized community.”

The development has prompted the NFL to launch a Personal Conduct Policy investigation into the matter. Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesperson, rounded it off, stating, “standard policy for the league to review a matter such as this.”

Back in 2019, Hill came under police investigation after his then-fiance, Crystal Espinal accused him of child abuse. Their 3-year-old had suffered a broken arm, requiring the NFL to investigate the matter. But after months long probe, they could not conclude that Hill had violated the Personal Code of Conduct. The verdict remained the same 4 years later when Hill was accused of slapping an employee on the head after a disagreement.

Barring the time when Instagram model, Sophia Hall, accused Hill of breaking her leg while participating in a football drill, this would be the third time the Dolphins WR sees NFL interference. If deemed guilty of violating the Personal Conduct Policy this time, as a first-time offender, Hill will be looking at a 6-game suspension. And if the Dolphins make an in-season trade, that’s not a situation the Chiefs want to deal with. As far as injuries go, they have enough players warming the bench.

Tyreek Hill trade rumors landed the Kansas City Chiefs in the conversation

After an 8-9 finish, Hill wasn’t thrilled to have missed the playoffs for the first time in his 9-year career. It doesn’t come as a surprise that trade rumors followed him throughout the offseason. More so, he had already requested a trade from the team, only the Dolphins weren’t ready to part ways then. But Game 1 only intensified the speculations.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, a number of teams had placed a call to Miami to make an offer. But the Chiefs have managed to bag the top conversations, and it made sense too, considering he’s had the most success there, thanks to his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.

Hill’s former team in Kansas City fell 27-21 to the Chargers in Week 1. KC’s offense looked shaky with multiple playmakers sidelined. So, Patrick Mahomes leaned more than planned on Travis Kelce, and a crossing-route collision left rookie Xavier Worthy with a shoulder injury. Add in Rashee Rice’s looming suspension and Jalen Royals’ knee issue, and suddenly the Chiefs look desperate for a proven wideout. Hill could seamlessly fit the picture, helping spread the field and open up offense.

However, the Chiefs aren’t the only ones. Ever since trading George Pickens, the Steelers are also on the lookout for a No. 2 WR. Given his run as one of the best receivers, posting three consecutive 100+ receptions, Hill is believed to make an ideal addition. Think about the pairing Aaron Rodgers would have with DK Metcalf and the LVI champion.

Although Hill’s attorney has denied the domestic violence allegations, calling it a ‘smear campaign’ to acquire massive settlement money, it remains to be seen how the verdict positions Hill in light of the NFL’s investigation. Whether the said teams will make a move is a conversation to be had for another day.
