Derek Carr seems to have chosen a heck of a time to announce a career beyond the gridiron. With the Saints scrambling to find Carr’s replacement, as his shoulder injury has thrown his 2025 NFL season into limbo, the QB seems to have other priorities. Even though the Saints restructured his $150M contract, they gave him $40M in guarantees whether or not he passes a physical. Still, Carr’s focus is somewhere else.
Just last week, Carr was captured introducing his latest YouTube channel, the “Home Grown Network”, to his 60K subscribers. Here, he will be partnering with brother David Carr to discuss a range of topics, from lifestyle to hobbies. They even opened a few baseball cards and shared a few tips on golf. But on Tuesday, he released his first major video, adding a luxurious angle to it. Carr was captured sharing a luxury car review on the Rolls-Royce Spectre.
He even sarcastically said, “Thank you to our non-sponsor of this video for allowing us to purchase a Rolls-Royce Spectre.” Making it clear to his subscribers that it was Carr who made this $500K purchase. His brother David also added, “I had nothing to do with this purchase”—as the two sat inside the Spectre for a quick drive around the block. Just to let you know, this video was released on the day the Saints opened their offseason workout program.

While his teammates reported for work under Kellen Moore’s first day as head coach, their presumed starting QB was testing his new Rolls-Royce Spectre. Even Chris Olave was there in Metairie after his series of concussions last year. But Carr—well, he was busying reviewing the interior of his half-a-million dollar coupe. This optics only further derails Carr’s leadership status in NOLA. From him shouting at Olave for missing a catch to yelling at Pro Bowl center, Erik McCoy, for failing to protect him.
Carr’s time in New Orleans may end sooner than it was expected. With the Saints reportedly laser-focused on drafting a QB, his future as a Saint looks darker than ever.

Injury or not, Derek Carr’s future in New Orleans looks over
After Ian Rapoport’s report that Carr’s shoulder injury has pushed the Saints into a desperate search for a QB. His injury was the primary reason they had to amp up their search for a QB. But it wasn’t the whole picture. NFL insider Dianna Russini has since stated that the New Orleans are on a mission to draft a QB. Now, where will they land a QB? That’s obviously a different question. But she also feels Carr chose to walk out of this situation after he came to know Saints’ plans for drafting a quarterback.

Citing the example of Kirk Cousins and the Falcons last year, Carr chose to go AWOL, considering how it could be a repeat of the Cousins situation. After the Falcons gave Cousins a mammoth $180M contract, he was supposed to be their starter for at least 4 years. However, when the Falcons, without notifying Cousins’ camp, drafted Michael Penix Jr., it sent a warning to Cousins. The situation created undue pressure on him to keep on performing, but when his TDs dried up and his INTs amped up; Cousins was dropped, and Penix Jr. eventually took over.

So, obviously, Carr wouldn’t want a Cousins treatment in NOLA. Maybe that’s why he ain’t too focused on the Saints now. With Kellen Moore having already hosted Quinn Ewers and Tyler Shough for a top 30 visit, it would only be a matter of time before they get their young signal caller. As for Carr, his Saints tenure is probably all but over even before a snap is played in the new season.
