When former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons showed up to the Week 3 preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons in street clothes and chose to lie down on a table with his eyes closed, the headlines that followed weren’t kind. Was the veteran captain disrespecting the franchise that once drafted him? Parsons said that wasn’t the case, and clarified it was actually due to back stiffness he was dealing with at the time. It’s been a year since then, and his brother, Terrance Parsons Jr, hasn’t forgotten a single thing.

When The Athletic’s Jon Machota posted a picture of Parsons lying on a table from that preseason game, captioning it “One year anniversary,” Terrance reposted it and took a dig at America’s Team.

“Best thing Micah ever did to get the f**k outta there,” Terrance wrote on X.

Parsons was locked in a brutal contract standoff with the Cowboys’ owner/general manager Jerry Jones at the time. Parsons lying on that table was seen by many as a move to force the Cowboys to trade him. The next day, via a conference call, head coach Brian Schottenheimer refused to comment on it “without talking to Micah.” Parsons, on the same day, replied to a social media post that clarified he’d only been on that table for a brief while in the second half.

“The way media shapes perception and narratives is wild–and if he hadn’t said anything, everyone would’ve just run with it,” Micah said at the time. “I’d never disrespect the guys out there fighting for their lives.

But the narratives didn’t go away, and neither did the standoff. Despite Jerry Jones saying he didn’t plan to trade Micah, six days after that preseason game, on August 28th, he was traded to the Green Bay Packers. Jerry got draft picks that he cashed in this offseason, and Parsons got a new team, a 4-year, $186 million extension, and a fanbase that chanted “Thank you, Jerry” after Parsons landed 0.5 sacks and 3 QB hits against the Washington Commanders.

As for Terrance, he didn’t take to the trade kindly. When the news first broke, he went on a tirade of social media digs aimed at Dallas, saying, “just a point it never had to get to,” in one post, “Generational player mismanagement” in another, and so on. Micah always wanted to be a Cowboy, and seeing the disappointment his brother had to suffer, Terrance is still against the Cowboys a year removed from the fact.

The Parsons trade was a win-win for both sides. But the contract disputes, the media narratives, the “Pay Micah” chants… all of it is still fresh in Micah’s family’s mind. It doesn’t look like they’re about to let everyone forget it anytime soon either.
