“It’s Super Bowl or bust.” Going into the season, Dak Prescott knew exactly what Cowboys Nation was expecting. After all, the franchise had promised a defensive rebuild, a new physical identity, and a change from last season. However, when a Week 1 loss ended those expectations sooner than expected, Prescott called fans to stay calm. And that hasn’t gone down well with one broadcaster.

FOX Sports broadcaster Chris Broussard publicly called out the Dallas Cowboys QB on First Things First for his response.
“I’m just starting to wish Dak would chill out a little bit. I mean, just say, look, we didn’t play well. I get why fans are frustrated. That was a terrible loss, and I get it. Maybe the Giants really are good. I thought they did look good… But if you’re struggling against the Giants, who are you gonna beat? And in this [week], if you lose to the Commanders at home, who are you beating cause their schedule – it’s tough.”
Broussard referred to when Prescott asked fans to calm down earlier this week.
“II love our fans, but I don’t necessarily feel like I need to speak to that fan. Sorry for them. If they’re a real fan, they’ll stick with it. They’ll trust it. They’ll believe in it. And at the end of the day, it is one game. Yeah, it sucks, it’s the first game,” Prescott said.
While Prescott’s comments aren’t wrong, Broussard has a point here. For the last few months, all the Cowboys Nation was promised were claims of a rebuild. DC Christian Parker’s arrival was going to change the last-place defense into a respectable unit. They followed that up by signing veterans like Rashan Gary and Von Miller.
It even had Jerry Jones, the same team owner who hadn’t tasted Super Bowl glory in three decades, believing that this team could get back on top.
“I like what we’ve got in our coaching staff. I like what we’ve got in the makeup of our players. I think we’re extraordinarily sound in the way we’re approaching all sides of the ball. So, it’s unquestionably founded on the fact that in my mind, we’re not hanging by a thread any place,” Jones said in August.
Yet, the Giants, with first-year HC John Harbaugh and 2nd-year QB Jaxson Dart, came out strong and defeated the Cowboys 28-20. The same side that ended the season with a 4-13 record saw the Dallas defense surrender 394 total yards, while allowing the Giants to convert 9 out of 11 third downs.
And, following the Week 1 loss against the Giants, the Cowboys owner simply turned the page, noting: “We’re not at the level that we thought we would be.”
That’s why fans being unhappy and losing hope isn’t the worst thing. They’ve seen this scenario play out for multiple seasons before this. Just take the last 10 years of Week 1 games. Dallas is 4-6, with their only four wins coming against two teams: the Giants and the Browns.
Even though Prescott acknowledges the frustration, fans had a right to lose hope, especially after a blowout loss against the Giants. And if there’s any consolation for Cowboys Nation, Prescott and the coach have already begun preparing to take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday, September 20.
“Nobody’s more p—– than myself and these guys in here. We didn’t want to start 0-1. We’re as excited as any fan out there about the offseason and things we’ve done in the training camp. So, turn that energy and come to the game this Sunday and be as loud as you can. We appreciate it”
As of now, DC Christian Parker has assessed and communicated the mistakes made during the Week 1 game.
“I showed them the plays that I was referencing, that I didn’t feel great about. Then, we showed the good and the bad throughout the game, and how we can build upon that and correct those,” Parker recently said in a press conference.
Meanwhile, Fox Sports broadcaster Chris Broussard has suggested that the Cowboys QB should focus more on putting out a strong performance on the field.
In Week 1, against the Giants, Prescott threw for only 175 yards, a sharp decline in his performance compared to last season. If the Cowboys and Dak Prescott want to be Super Bowl contenders this year, they need to put up a winning performance from Week 2 onwards.
