For the Dallas Cowboys, a promising three-game win streak ended in frustration after a humbling 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions. With their playoff hopes taking a major hit following what briefly looked like an impressive comeback, head coach Brian Schottenheimer didn’t hold back to call out everyone in the locker room.

Be it the offense or the special team, he sent a strong message to point out the mistakes from the game.

“We certainly didn’t cover very well. I thought that kind of flipped the field, gave them a bunch of short fields, and we have to look at why that was. And we’ll do that, certainly an area for us to clean up,” he said while speaking of the special team.

The Cowboys’ special team had an unimpressive performance against the Lions. They gave up 261 kick return yards. That field position boost let the Lions start, on average, at their own 44-yard line.

Moreover, returner KaVontae Turpin made a costly mistake. He was called for an invalid fair catch penalty in the first quarter.

“Turpin knows better than that,” Schottenheimer said. “That’s pretty simple, just don’t do it. If you put the hand up, don’t run.”

The Cowboys dug themselves a deep hole, losing the turnover battle 3-0 and handing the Lions 14 points off two interceptions and a costly fumble. On the other side, the defense couldn’t slow down Detroit’s run game, giving up four rushing touchdowns.

Quarterback Dak Prescott threw two interceptions and took five sacks. He made it clear afterward that the team isn’t discouraged. However, they are angry and will respond to this game.

“The guys are pissed off right now. I don’t think this is any deflated moment, like our hands are up, (saying) we’re done. No, absolutely not. I think you’re gonna get a team that’s pissed. I hope it pisses people off the right way and we use it as fuel,” Prescott told Jon Machota.

The QB completed 31-of-47 for 376 yards and one touchdown. After the game, the Cowboys’ coach also pointed out the issues with Prescott.

The coach didn’t mince his words when calling out his quarterback’s mistakes. He explained that the offense, including Prescott, struggled to execute in the first half.

“We’re not executing very good, again gotta be a little more balanced with the run, that starts with me, they’re doing a really good job, we got our guys loose a couple times, but penalties & self-inflicted wounds,” he said when asked about the offense.

The Cowboys’ offense averaged 6.3 yards per pass. When asked about the Lions’ offense, he admitted they had an impressive game. Jahmyr Gibbs was especially impressive, scoring three touchdowns and catching seven passes for 77 yards.

“They got lots of speed on their team, we gotta tackle better, Jahmyr Gibbs is a great player, we just gotta do a better job at handling him,” he said.

With their playoff hopes still alive, the Cowboys now shift their focus to a crucial game against the Minnesota Vikings on December 14. It will be important that the team can turn their anger into some good results.
