will be looking to bounce back after a close 31-28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Currently sitting at 2-3, the Chiefs will be facing probably the best offensive team, the Detroit Lions, who are soaring high after four consecutive wins. And amidst such a high-voltage clash, the Chiefs are set to miss one key player from their offensive room at Arrowhead Stadium.

According to National Insider of the NFL

Ian Rapoport, offensive tackle Josh Simmons has been listed as questionable before the game against the Lions. This is due to a family matter back at his home in California, which makes his availability for the Lions game doubtful.
Putting Josh Simmons on the IR was a surprise addition since there were no reports of any kind of injury. But the later revelation about Simmons’ personal issue made everything clear. However, this is not the first time Simmons has had a game-day addition to IR. He was added to the IR in the last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to an illness.

The interesting thing here is that he was picked despite his injury (a torn patellar tendon in his knee). Now, with him landing on the IR list, the Chiefs are staring at new challenges. It’s only Week 6, and they’ve already recorded 16 sacks.

Throughout the season, Kansas has been dealing with a thin offensive line. They are without starting left tackle

Taylor Decker, who is dealing with a shoulder injury and will miss his second straight game.

Also, top reserve

Giovanni Manu will not be available as he popped his knee during Thursday’s practice session. Now, Simmons’ addition to the list of unavailable players has created an offensive line dilemma for the Chiefs.

But the one good thing is that after being put on the IR list in the last game, Simmons returned to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fans will hope for a similar IR-to-gridiron movement, and if it doesn’t, the Chiefs will have to turn to Plan B.

The Chiefs will check their depth if Simmons isn’t available

The good thing here that will now turn in the Chiefs’ favor is general manager

Brett Veach’s roster contingency plan of signing Jaylon Moore in free agency. Veach’s move was for situations like this. Moore, who made his NFL debut in 2021, got to play in five games in relief of injured left tackle Trent Williams during his time with the San Francisco 49ers. He can play the role of a starter on both sides for the Chiefs.

Also, the Chiefs have

Wanya Morris on the reserve list. He is a 3rd-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. In the 2024 season, Morris played in 17 games for the Chiefs and recorded 1 touchdown. He can be an option if Simmons misses the game.

Simmons’ arrival in the Chiefs looked like the end of the Chiefs’ long search for a reliable left tackle. But now, with doubts about his availability for an important showdown against the Jaguars, the Chiefs will have to make the best of their backups and reserves to keep their offensive room firing on all cylinders.
