Travis Kelce just turned back the clock on Monday night. At Arrowhead Stadium, the fans watched the Kansas City Chiefs dismantle the Washington Commanders 28-7. Kelce also had his best game of the season, leading the Chiefs with six receptions on eight targets for 99 yards.

But when the game was over, the tone shifted. While celebrating another dominant win, the All-Pro tight end dropped a few words that got everyone’s attention. “We’re cherishing every single one of these games, not knowing how long we’ll be able to do this,” he said after the game.
It wasn’t just emotion talking. It felt like a small window into what’s been on his mind lately.

Travis’ contract with the Chiefs ends with his 13th NFL season, but there is no confirmation of his retirement yet. It’s unclear how much longer Kelce plans to keep going. The veteran tight end has dropped a few hints that the end might be closer than people think, but he’s also made it clear he still feels strong and in rhythm.

“Man, it’s the last one on the contract right now,” Kelce said before the season opener in September. “But I’ll tell you what — I’m feeling young and I’m feeling ready to rock, baby.”
And he did have a rocking performance, indeed. Earlier in the night, Kelce joined a club reserved for legends. Late in the third, Patrick Mahomes found him on a 10-yard dart that sent Arrowhead into chaos.
The catch marked Kelce’s 100th career touchdown reception, counting both the regular season and playoffs, making him just the fourth tight end in NFL history to hit triple digits. The only others in that group: Antonio Gates (118), Tony Gonzalez (115), and Rob Gronkowski (107).
It also doubled as his 83rd regular-season touchdown, tying him with Priest Holmes for the most in Chiefs history. One more, and Kelce stands alone at the top.

That’s the kind of milestone that defines a legacy. No wonder Andy Reid and Mahomes couldn’t stop praising him after the game.
Andy Reid and Mahomes praise Travis Kelce
After the win, Andy Reid couldn’t help but smile when talking about his star tight end. “It’s a compliment to him. There have been some great tight ends in this team’s history,” Reid said after the game.
Patrick Mahomes also followed up with his own thoughts, giving credit where it was due.
“He’s just the true Chiefs’ Chief,” Mahomes said of Kelce’s accomplishments. “He’s the guy that’s been here through the whole thing, being here with Coach [Andy] Reid the entire time. He helped set the culture of what it means to play for Coach Reid and for Kansas City. I was able to come in and have that guy to rely on. He’s breaking all the records now. He’s all about the team, so I wanted to make sure he gets that [ball], and hopefully we can get another ball for him later in the season when he breaks the record.”
Overall, Kelce also had a good game. He hauled in six catches for 99 yards and a score against the Commanders. Mahomes also delivered, completing 25 of 34 passes for 299 yards, adding three touchdowns and two picks. The chemistry between the two was electric, just like old times.
Still, the biggest takeaway for Chiefdom is this: Kelce looks like himself again. Through eight games, he’s up to 37 catches, 474 yards, and three touchdowns. The rhythm is back, the energy is high, and next week’s game might just be another chance for No. 87 to stand alone in the record books.
