Essentials Inside The Story
- Rashee Rice accused of domestic abuse by ex-girlfriend, followed by surprising social media move
- NFL opens investigation under personal conduct policy despite no conviction
- Rice previously suspended for multi-car crash, repeat offense risks harsher penalty
The Rashee Rice drama doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. On January 7, his ex-girlfriend Dacoda Nichole Jones made some serious domestic violence allegations against the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver on Instagram. A recent unexplained move by her has now added more complexity to the situation.

“An Instagram post from an account associated with an ex-girlfriend of Chiefs WR Rashee Rice detailing allegations of domestic violence by an unnamed person, accompanied with photos, has been deleted,” Chiefsdigest.com’s Matt Derrick reported on Jan 11. “No explanation for the removal of the post has been issued.”

In her post, Jones shared troubling allegations, sharing photos of bruises and scratches on her body, which she claims were inflicted during their relationship.
The post further revealed photos of property damage, including multiple pictures of walls with holes in them, a broken cabinet, and a light switch broken in half, as well as a photo of a closet with clothes on the floor. The sudden disappearance of the post without any explanation has raised questions.
Rice and Jones were together for nearly eight years before splitting two months ago. While Nichole Jones did not mention the wideout by name in the caption, she wrote that the person involved was the father of her children. She has two kids: Cassai and Cayden with Rice.

“I’m so tired of keeping quiet. I’m so tired of protecting his image,” Nichole wrote in the caption of her now-removed Instagram post. “I’ve been through too much in a span of 8 years, and I’ve had ENOUGH! I’ve dealt with abuse for years, me and this man decided to break up a couple months ago, and since then it’s been nothing but hell.”
As these allegations were made public, the NFL was quick to issue its statement on Rashee Rice.

“We have been in contact with the club about the matter, which will be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy,” the NFL’s statement from Jan 8 read.
As of now, there hasn’t been any official police complaint or criminal charges filed against the wide receiver. However, the league would still proceed even if Rice does not face a conviction. If the league believes that the involved player has engaged in any detrimental conduct, they will be subject to discipline.
The very first point under the policy includes domestic violence, among others. Veteran star Von Miller underwent a similar situation back in 2023 before getting suspended for four games in early October 2024.

Under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, a first offense involving domestic violence, assault, or similar violent conduct carries a baseline suspension of six games without pay, which the league can increase or decrease based on aggravating or mitigating circumstances.
A second violation in the same category can lead to permanent banishment from the NFL, though the disciplined individual may petition for reinstatement after at least one year. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, such controversies have been quite frequent. Rice’s teammate Kareem Hunt faced a similar punishment back in 2019.
The NFL suspended Hunt for eight games for various altercations, including but not necessarily limited to the one with a woman in a Cleveland hotel in 2018. Later, when a graphic video of him knocking the woman to the ground emerged, the Chiefs released him.

When it comes to Rice, he was also handed a six-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy. He was involved in a high-speed multi-car crash that left several people injured in May 2024. He was out for the first six games of the 2025 season. But this time, the punishment could be much more stringent.
“Because the league tends to come down harder on repeat offenders, there’s a possibility the NFL would levy a substantial suspension this time, perhaps a full season,” SI.com’s Zak Gilbert wrote last week.
Addressing this Rashee Rice situation, the Kansas City Chiefs also released a statement about their wide receiver.

Chiefs issue statement on Rashee Rice allegations
The Kansas City Chiefs’ top brass was quick to take notice of the allegations and put out a statement on Jan 8.
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League,” the Chiefs said in their statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

If at all Rice is found guilty, he could potentially face a suspension. Meaning, he won’t be available for the first couple games in the 2026 season. The Chiefs are still awaiting their final schedule.

The Chiefs clan would definitely want him back from day 1 of the 2026 campaign, especially when Coach Andy Reid aims for a productive offseason.
