After a shaky start to the 2025 season, the Kansas City Chiefs have managed to even their record to 3-3 in six weeks. Tight end Travis Kelce has supported his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, with other teammates also stepping up when it matters. But the spotlight is shining brightly on the 36-year-old veteran.

While his experience definitely carries an edge, there’s one thing he has specifically done to make sure he is game-ready. Never missed the practice! In fact, he arrived at training camp in better shape than he was a year ago, and Mahomes noticed it.

“You could see that his body was in good shape,” Mahomes said back in May, “and he was moving faster than he even was the year before.”

The result? A whole lot of confidence.

“I’m feeling young, and I’m feeling ready to rock,” Kelce said before the Chiefs’ Sao Paulo game when asked if he was going to retire after this season. His energy is also spreading in his game lately.

While everyone anticipates 2025 to be his last NFL season, he is still showing his moves. Case in point: the Lions game. The Showtime darted the ball to him, and once he caught it, he cut to his left before making a 360-degree turn, blocking the Lions‘ players with a shoulder wiggle.

It looked similar to the “Dream Shake” move by the former Houston Rockets star center Hakeem Olajuwon.

On the sidelines, he was pumped. “Hit they a– with a Hakeem the Dream,” he said. Then he turned towards rookie running back Brashard Smith while telling him about the 90s NBA legend. The Chiefs QB also praised his teammate’s “vet moves.”

“You get up there a little older, you know how to use the other guy’s athleticism against him,” the veteran quarterback said. But as impressed as Mahomes has been with Kelce, it’s obvious that he also has other aces up his sleeve, and he plans on using them.

When the season started, the Chiefs had a problem to solve. Just like last year, their receiving department was suffering from absences and injuries. While Rashee Rice dealt with a six-game suspension, Xavier Worthy also got injured. Now, Rice is set to return, and Worthy is already playing for them.

But the Week 6 game against the Lions showed their receiving game is getting stronger.

Kansas scored 3 receiving TDs while adding 1 rushing TD. Now, Patrick Mahomes has also made his commitment clear. “They know if they get open, I’m gonna throw them the football,” he said. That’s also a way of pumping his teammates to create more space on the gridiron. Travis Kelce has sensed this already.

While younger players like Worthy and Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown draw attention, Travis Kelce leads the Chiefs in receiving yards with 321. He has 28 catches, just behind Brown’s 30, and 2 touchdowns in 6 games. After posting a career-low 823 yards and 3 TDs in 2024, Kelce is on pace to surpass that this season.

The Grim Reaper’s assurance will certainly delight his receiving corps. They are already playing as a unit. Other than Kelce, they have 4 WRs who have more than 10 receptions and 100+ receiving yards and minimum one score.
