The Kansas City Chiefs’ 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14 dropped them to 6-7. This was yet again a tough blow to their playoff hopes. But while fans are venting about the team’s slide, former Chiefs player Mitchell Schwartz has his eye on something completely different. He’s calling on the NFL to take strong action after what he saw in Sunday’s game.

He shared a clip of one of the moments when the wide receiver Rashee Rice took a massive hit from safety Jalen Pitre and urged for a penalty.
“I know, I played for the Chiefs, the NFL is rigged, blah blah. Gets hit right in the face, it’s the definition of the penalty,” Schwartz wrote on X.

With less than a minute left in the third quarter, Rice was trying to secure a pass on a crossing route when Pitre hit him with full force, knocking him off his feet. The receiver briefly went limp after crashing into the turf, which immediately raised eyebrows. He appeared to have taken a hard hit to the head.
While Schwartz believes it was a hit to the face, some netizens have argued that it might have been simply a tough hit on the shoulder. Rice was not evaluated for a concussion on the sideline. However, the Chiefs might want to monitor him closely to avoid any further injuries.

Throughout the game, the WR also struggled with drops. He finished with four receptions on eight targets for 34 yards. And this was quite unusual for the receiver.
As for Pitre, whether he is at fault will be determined by the league’s game-day accountability report. He has been fined before for unnecessary roughness. One of the instances was when he hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce in Week 1 of 2022.

Even if Pitre gets fined, this won’t be able to change the outcome for the Chiefs. The team couldn’t keep up against the Texans’ impressive defense.
Patrick Mahomes threw three interceptions in a loss to the Texans
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a rough night, throwing three interceptions against the Texans. Mahomes’ pass intended for Juju Smith-Schuster was intercepted by Pitre early in the game, hinting at the Texans’ suffocating coverage. On the other hand, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and his Texans teammates executed a 90-yard drive capped by a nine-yard touchdown pass to Woody Marks.

Even though the Chiefs tried to make a comeback in the third quarter, it didn’t help. Mahomes completed just 12 of 30 passes for 131 yards and also led the team in rushing with 59 yards on seven carries. However, he was sacked twice throughout the game.
“You’re getting late in the season. You’re not going to get these opportunities back,” Mahomes said after the game. “That’s a good football team, but we had chances, and we didn’t execute at the right time to win it.”
This was one of the worst performances by the Chiefs’ quarterback. But it wasn’t all on Mahomes. The entire team struggled throughout the game, with six drops that kept momentum from swinging in their favor. It was a rough patch all around for the Chiefs, and with their playoff hopes slipping, the focus now will be to keep their players safe before the next game.
