State Farm may not be the NFL’s official insurer, but it simply won’t miss a creative opportunity that can tie it to the league’s culture. Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, the company showcased two advertisements by capitalizing on its connections to the league. The first one featured the Chiefs QB and longtime friend of State Farm, Patrick Mahomes.

The message was simple. He proclaimed that State Farm was more knowledgeable and helpful, just like Chiefs athletic trainer Julie Frymyer, who made a cameo in the advertisement. On the other hand, standard insurance policies were more like Meghan Trainor, the pop star who also made a cameo, but did not know much about Mahomes, who was her client in the commercial. Of course, actor Kevin Miles was also a part of it.

In the short clip, Frymyer was seen helping Mahomes with an injury, while Trainor also intended to do something similar, but instead, was about to put Mahomes’ arm in a leg brace! “No, it’s not for that,” the quarterback exclaimed.

“Who are you?” Trainor asked next.
“Patrick? I play football.”

“This is Patrick, everyone. Give it up for Patrick. He does sports,” Trainor said into a mic, while Mahomes looked perplexed. Does this concept seem familiar?

Well, it might ring a bell because it’s similar to State Farm’s ‘Batman vs. Bateman’ commercial that ran during NCAA March Madness. And now, just before the NFL season, the company, which ended 2024 with $145.2 billion in net worth, is running the same script. They are using the sports marketing calendar, athlete connections, and tailored content to grab attention.

The latest commercial is set to run across linear, digital, social, online video, and streaming. Besides, it’ll also feature a collaboration with Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football. Another spot featured the Lions‘ defensive end and defensive captain, Aidan Hutchinson, who returns for his second season with the company. But why is the company getting so creative? Answering that question, Alyson Griffin, State Farm’s head of marketing, stated:

“Our budgets in [the insurance] category are far smaller than our competitors, so we always have to think about how we break through… Challenge No. 1 is, nobody cares about insurance. Nobody thinks about insurance. Nobody’s waking up every morning going, ‘I wonder what the insurance carriers think today.’ It’s just not a thing, and so you have to break through.” Ever since fans have seen Mahomes’ commercial, it has become one of the favorite advertisements for the Chiefs Kingdom.

Interesting Fact: Meghan Trainor got the commercial with Mahomes because she is a fan of State Farm, and back in the day, she grew up with siblings who loved football.

Patrick Mahomes’ State Farm spot is the latest talk of the town

You’ll always find the Chiefs’ athletic trainers working behind the scenes, whether it’s the preseason, regular season, or even the Super Bowl. But Julie Frymyer has been celebrated by the Chiefs Kingdom ever since Patrick Mahomes sustained a high-ankle sprain during the divisional round of the 2023 season. But the quarterback played through the pain and led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win.

“Julie WAS the reason i was the guy i was on the field today! It takes everyone but she lead the charge all week!!! Now let’s get Super Bowl ready!!” he wrote on X in January 2023.

So, when the latest State Farm spot dropped, the fans didn’t just celebrate the Chiefs’ quarterback and Frymyer as well. One fan summed it up perfectly: “I think this is my favorite State Farm commercial!!” You can’t blame them. Between the cameos, the humor, and Mahomes just being Mahomes, the spot hits all the right notes. State Farm knows how to grab attention, and this one landed in the sweet spot with fans.

Then you’ve got the hype that only Chiefs Kingdom can deliver. “When you see Mahomes in a State Farm commercial…. CHIEFS Football is back babeeee! 🔥💪🏿.” That reaction isn’t just about the ad—it’s about timing. The spot dropped right as football season energy hit, and for fans, Mahomes just kicked off vibes. Another chimed in and couldn’t stop laughing: “Lmao!!! Omg I love this!! This is the best!! 😂😂🫶🏈❣️.” It’s goofy, it’s lighthearted, and it’s exactly what you’d expect when Mahomes and Meghan Trainor start trading lines.

But it wasn’t about Mahomes this time. “So glad to see Julie getting recognized ‼️‼️‼️‼️.” The supporters haven’t forgotten how Frymyer kept Mahomes on the field during that high-ankle sprain run in 2023, and neither did Mahomes. One person summed it up: “Love how Patrick actually had his real trainer in the commercial. He’s always looking out for his people.”

Turns out, Patrick Mahomes’ factor is in the mix as well. Beyond the highlight reels and MVP talk, it was his decision to bring Frymyer into the commercial that grabbed everyone’s attention.

Interesting Fact: Frymyer is one of only 21 women employed by NFL teams as trainers. While Mahomes previously brought in Travis Kelce, Chiefs coach Andy Reid, and even guard Trey Smith for State Farm ads, this time, he chose to highlight women in the sport.
