Five weeks into the season, and the Kansas City Chiefs have already been through it. It has been a rollercoaster of a start. They opened the year face-planting with back-to-back losses to the Chargers and Eagles, only to steady the ship with wins over the Giants and Ravens. Now comes the real test: a road trip to face the Jaguars. But before kickoff, the latest injury report just might tilt things in KC’s favor.

Let’s start with the bad news. And thankfully, there’s not much of it. Cornerback Kristian Fulton (ankle) was once again limited this week after missing the last two games. If he can’t go on Sunday, the Chiefs will likely lean on Joshua Williams and promising rookie Nohl Williams to hold down the fort against a tough Jacksonville passing attack.

Now, onto the good stuff already. And there’s a lot of it. Of the nine players on Kansas City’s injury list, pretty much everyone else looks ready to roll. Xavier Worthy is still technically listed, but after suiting up versus the Ravens, expect him to be a full-go against the Jags again.

As for Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback has been living on the injury report lately. First, a wrist issue in Weeks 3 and 4, now a “groin injury.” But he practiced in full all week, and if his recent performances are anything to go by (5 TDs in the last two games), he’s not exactly hobbling around. Call it what it is: standard Mahomes maintenance.

Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jawaan Taylor, Michael Danna, Charles Omenihu, and James Winchester also practiced fully all week. So, yeah, outside of Fulton? The Chiefs are in great shape. The same can’t be said for the Jacksonville.

Jaguars’ injury report is rather concerning

The Jaguars’ injury report paints a troubling picture. Five offensive linemen were limited on Thursday. It’s almost like their offensive line is duct-taped together. Three of them are starters: Ezra Cleveland (concussion/ankle), Patrick Mekari (knee), and Anton Harrison (elbow). All three got banged up last week against San Francisco.

The backups, Wyatt Milum and Chuma Edoga, are hurting too.

Jacksonville’s offensive line has quietly been one of the stronger units this season, but if two starters sit out, Trevor Lawrence could struggle against Chris Jones and the Chiefs’ pass rush. The silver lining? Both Ezra Cleveland and Patrick Mekari played through injuries last week, so there’s a good chance they suit up again. It doesn’t stop there.

Travon Walker, one of their best defensive players, didn’t practice after having a minor wrist procedure. Head coach Liam Coen called him “day-to-day,” which is basically coach-speak for flip a coin. Add Dyami Brown to the “maybe” pile at wide receiver, and the picture gets even messier.

The Chiefs-Jaguars matchup may be tricky for bettors, but one thing is clear: Kansas City holds a significant edge on the injury front.

Patrick Mahomes is scrambling to spark the Chiefs’ ground game. Andy Reid’s crew is leaning even more on #15. But how long can he carry the load? Find out in our video.
