Patrick Mahomes‘ struggles at Arrowhead reached a boiling point against the Houston Texans, but it was his apparent disconnect with tight end Travis Kelce that sent the Chiefs Kingdom into a frenzy. The quarterback had had a tough time finding open receivers as the Texans’ defense forced him into errors, and fans couldn’t help but observe a pattern.

During the entire game, the signal caller targeted Kelce five times, completing only one pass for eight yards. He is their best receiver this season with 59 receptions for 719 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. However, if you see the complete receiving corps, the Texans’ defense did a great job of not allowing the QB to pass the ball.

Mahomes completed only 14 of 33 passes for 160 passing yards and three interceptions against them.

‘Showtime’ threw the ball to receiver Rashee Rice eight times, completing four of them for 34 yards. Kelce was the second-most targeted player. Sophomore receiver Xavier Worthy completed three of four attempts for 55 yards. But the disappointing part was that none of the receiving players scored a touchdown.

When Mahomes threw to Kelce twice with five minutes left in the game, he failed to catch either pass. On the 1st & 10 pass, the tight end dropped the pass. On the next play, he had the ball in his arms, but it jumped out. Texans’ linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was on his tail and caught it, completing the interception.

However, fans still targeted Patrick Mahomes for not throwing the ball enough to the veteran tight end.

Fans take shots at Patrick Mahomes for ignoring Travis Kelce

Fans claimed that Mahomes ignored Kelce on many occasions. However, some were seriously curious about Mahomes not throwing the ball to Kelce. A fan mentioned, “Why Mahomes not throwing to Travis Kelce? 🤔🤔.”

The signal caller was on the fans’ target as he did not target Kelce for the first 40% of the game. He threw the first pass to the tight end at the 4:10 mark in the second quarter, which was incomplete. And this is unfamiliar territory. One fan observed this and tweeted, “The Chiefs still haven’t targeted Travis Kelce, the best receiving TE in NFL history.”

The Chiefs’ loss was also witnessed by Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift, who was present to watch the team play for the first time since November 23. But the way the Kansas City team player didn’t impress fans.

The game against the Texans was also one of Mahomes’ worst performances of his career. It knocked the team out of the AFC West title contention. Plus, the quarterback threw three interceptions. It’s his first time since Dec. 11, 2022, against Denver, where he threw three picks.

“So Travis Kelce is injured and must not have played a single snap tonight right?” A supporter fueled a rumor about the 36-year-old veteran being injured. But that was not the case. He has been their top receiver this entire season.

Then, there were fans who believed the throw Mahomes made was not a good one. Kelce’s fans tried explaining how he dropped the pass. “The ball was thrown behind Kelce. It was a bad pass.”

“Kelce had to spin around to almost catch it,” another wrote, though many X users were unhappy with Kelce.

That said, Rashee Rice also had a brutal drop on a fourth-down pass. All of these issues collectively led to a loss.

In the end, the Chiefs Kingdom failed. The franchise’s probability of qualifying for the playoffs also dropped further. Will the big shocker happen this season? It could happen if the Chiefs don’t unite now.
