The Kansas City Chiefs may have had a slow start to the season, but they seem to have picked up their form at the right time. And yes, Andy Reid will have the home advantage at Arrowhead Stadium; the Chiefs will have to overcome the Detroit Lions, who have the best offense this season. To tackle Dan Campbell’s offense, HC Reid is being cautious with his Sunday Night Football decision.

After receiving good news that everyone on their injury report was fully healthy to play, the Chiefs did not make any practice squad promotions before their Week 6 game. Meanwhile, the Lions promoted offensive tackle Devan Cochran and defensive back Arthur Maulet from their practice squad.

Notably, the Chiefs are in great shape right now. Almost every key player will play. Patrick Mahomes (groin), Marquise Brown (ankle), and Nick Bolton (calf) all practiced the full week. Rookie receiver Xavier Worthy missed one day with a shoulder and ankle issue but came back on Friday, October 10, and is ready to go. In short, the Chiefs are almost fully healthy, a big plus as they try to get back to winning form.

The Lions, however, are dealing with many injuries. Important players like Terrion Arnold (shoulder), Zach Cunningham (hamstring), and Taylor Decker (shoulder) are all out. Running back Sione Vaki (groin) and defensive tackle Alim McNeill (knee) are also out. This hurts both their offense and defense. Safeties Brian Branch (ankle) and Kerby Joseph (knee) are questionable, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (wrist) will play but was limited earlier in the week.

So, while the Chiefs have nearly everyone ready, the Lions are missing several key starters, giving Kansas a clear advantage on Sunday. However, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has proved to be lethal despite these setbacks. And the Chiefs are struggling to keep their mental approach right. Even against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, they couldn’t stop the stumble rushing TD in the last minute and lost.

While they have more firepower going into this game, they also need to limit their penalties as the league is watching and fining the players who violate the rules.

Andy Reid’s receiver fined for Week 5 anger

The NFL fined the Chiefs’ wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown $12,172 for throwing a punch during the team’s 31–28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. The incident occurred with 6:47 left in the first quarter. The Chiefs were inside Jacksonville’s 30-yard line when Kareem Hunt ran for one yard. After the play, Brown got into a fight with Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis and punched him in the helmet. The penalty cost Kansas City 15 yards for unnecessary roughness, moving them out of scoring position.

Brown had a decent game otherwise, 4 catches for 48 yards from Patrick Mahomes. But the Chiefs couldn’t hold off Trevor Lawrence, who led Jacksonville to a comeback win. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Brown was the only player flagged and fined for that specific play. The fine was for ‘striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing.’ If Brown repeats the same action, the next fine will rise to $17,968.

In total, the league handed out 13 fines across 2,264 plays in Week 5, just 0.57% of all snaps. Last week, another Chiefs receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, was fined $7,903 for a low block. So, they need to avoid these types of angry moments. It hits them during the game on the gridiron and in the financial charts as well.
