Isn’t DE Montez Sweat ready for the Bears’ future? Just a few hours before the NFL trade deadline of the season, the Washington Commanders traded the DE duo of Sweat and Chase Young. However, through the latest updates, it appears that there are some issues arising with Sweat’s deal with the Bears.

The Chicago Bears are sitting at the bottom of the NFC North division, appearing on the brink of elimination, without making it to the playoffs again. Meanwhile, the Windy City brought in 27-year-old Sweat with a ‘casual’ approach, making Da Eber Floozies confused. There is a chance of long-term benefit for the defensive end, however, Montez Sweat is planning to give it a hold at the moment.

Montez Sweat looking for another option?

The Bears acquired Commanders pass rusher Montez Sweat on Tuesday in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. This move will potentially support the defensive end of the Bears, impacting the season’s disappointing team of pass rushers. However, where on one side it was clear that the Bears would sign Sweat in a long-term deal, on the other side, a twist in the news has appeared recently.

According to an NFL reporter, Dov Kleiman, it was revealed that earlier in the day, the General Manager of the Bears gave an update on Sweat’s inclusion into the team. He explained how they’re “currently working” on signing the former Commanders’ defensive end “to a long-term extension.”

However, in the continued tweet, Kleiman added the footballer’s perspective of currently not being inclined toward signing an extension. Sweat elaborated on the same, saying, “I just want to consider everything around me before I make a decision.”

This means that if Sweat remains “unsigned and untagged”, he would have the chance to walk as a free agent, probably waiting for some other team to acquire him. However, this incident with Sweat brought in a quick reminder of the previous times the GM of the Bears committed similar mistakes.

A repetition of an early mistake!

The Bears acquired Montez Sweat without offering him a proper contract extension or starting substantial negotiations about it. As per sources, they took a risk hoping to get ahead of other teams who might want to sign Sweat in a free agency next year in March.

Interestingly, the Bears GM Ryan Poles, previously couldn’t extend the contracts of CB Jaylon Johnson and LB Roquan Smith, who now are off with their deals, and are planning to look for further options. While the same case may not happen with Sweat, the team will make every effort to find common ground for him and the franchise.
