In the ever-changing dynamics of the NFL, no one has a permanent place. Even Tom Brady left the Patriots in 2020 when they refused to offer him a longer deal. Call it stubborn owners, hasty GMs, or highly pressured head coaches—things are always on edge. That’s exactly what’s unfolding with Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. After dealing with the setbacks surrounding quarterback Deshaun Watson over the past three years, the organization is now approaching every deal with caution and a long-term vision. That seems to be the only reason they’re still sleeping on their 29-year-old free agent running back, Nick Chubb.

The AFC North franchise drafted Chubb in the second round (35th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s been a loyal contributor, playing in 85 games (78 starts). Over seven seasons, he racked up 1,340 carries for 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns. He also made an impact in the receiving game, tallying 128 receptions for 1,042 yards and 5 touchdowns.

However, the Browns haven’t made a move to re-sign him since his one-year, $2.2 million deal expired. Back in 2021, they had inked him to a 3-year, $36.6 million extension. Now, Chubb appears to be sending a clear message to head coach Kevin Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry. The running back recently shared photos on Instagram of himself grinding in the gym, captioned: “They’ve already wrote my ending when I’m just getting started 🦇.” The Batman reference says it all—Nick Chubb is coming back with a vengeance.

The Browns might also sign him back from the free agency. But they are waiting for 2 things. The first is the draft, as most analysts want them to sign as many players as they can in the draft, which will not put pressure on them financially. The second factor could be the $58 million insurance against Deshaun Watson’s absence to give more money to spend. In both scenarios, Kevin Stefanski has to at least assure the player of a deal.

When Nick Chubb got injured last year, the coach supported his player. He even said, “I can’t tell you how much I respect him as a person, what he means to this football team.” The fans also love him. Everyone who saw his IG post had a clear message to the Browns’ front office.

Fans pressure Kevin Stefanski & co. to re-sign Nick Chubb

One fan made a direct demand to the Browns as he wrote in the comment section, “Re-sign this man immediately @clevelandbrowns.” The franchise would also like to do the same. But they might be factoring in the age issue. They hosted the Arizona state RB Cam Skattebo a few days back. But Chubb has a fanbase.

Another fan threatened Kevin Stefanski and the Browns of switching his loyalty. The angry fan said, “I swear, if you’re not wearing orange and brown, I’m becoming a Bucs fan.” However, others are more positive. They still have some belief left in the team, as one supporter urged the front office to get a deal done, writing, “Pay the man! Lock in, Browns. ✊🏽” And why not?

Nick Chubb has given seven years of his prime playing career to the AFC North franchise. Fans are urging the team not to let him down. One passionate supporter pleaded, “@clevelandbrowns make him a DAWG for life!” But a deal can only happen if both parties come to the table—which, so far, hasn’t happened.

Another fan made their stance crystal clear, commenting, “I don’t care how much he wants… give it to him… NOW!!!!” The excitement—and the chaos—is through the roof. Fans want the team to re-sign their best players, especially the ones who’ve bled for the franchise. But behind the scenes, bigger things are in motion. It’s overwhelming, and emotions are running high.
