Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce‘s steakhouse in Kansas City claimed to rival the world’s best. While the opening reviews of 1587 Prime positioned it as a luxurious and expensive establishment, a sudden wave of backlash appears to have challenged its authenticity.

It all began when a Redditor vented out his frustration over the subpar experience at the venue. “The $16 mashed potatoes served at Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s new restaurant,” they wrote on the website, attaching an image of the dish.

“They are also frequently served cold,” the post further read. That’s a rather surprising review, considering 1587 Prime was initially established with the motto of blending tradition and innovation. The place was specifically inaugurated on Mahomes’ 30th birthday, and several renowned figures from the world of sport and entertainment, including Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, Taylor Swift, Kane Brown, and others, had visited. Many left exceptional remarks about the celebration.

While the expensive menu had raised eyebrows, Kelsey Huson, a writer for Business Insider, visited the restaurant with three friends earlier this week. They ended up spending $800 on their meal. The verdict?

It was worth it!

For Huson, it was a special experience. She loved the presentation of the entrees and the cocktails. “When our entrées came, staff rolled a cart over to our table and flambéed a mixture of brandy, bone-marrow butter, and herbs before drizzling it over the steak,” she wrote in her article. But it seems not everyone has had a similar experience to rave about.

A Delmonico steak, which costs as high as $135, or a 16-oz Boneless Ribeye at $165, might not be the norm for most people. So, the restaurant doesn’t seem to be a hit with the general public.

And despite huge celebrity interaction and commendable branding, the place may have fallen short on a few occasions. At least, that’s what Redditors have been talking about.

Fans lash out over Mahomes and Kelce’s restaurant food

As the post about the mashed potatoes gained traction, other Reddit users added their thoughts. Having a closer look at the image, a fan shared their review on how it was seemingly unsatisfying.

  • “Looks like soupy powdered potatoes. Couldn’t tell where the taters ended and gravy began.”

Another Reddit user chimed in with a more humorous yet scathing take on the dish’s appearance.

  • “If that’s mashed potatoes, then I have 12 Super Bowl rings. I wouldn’t feed that to my dog.”

That’s disappointing to hear. After all, a lot went into planning the business. For instance, the cocktail menu had drinks inspired by the co-owners. ‘The Big Yeti’ and ‘Showtime’ are drinks named after Kelce and Mahomes, respectively. And ‘Queen B’ and ‘The Alchemy’ honor Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift. However, fans were expecting top-notch quality food.

  • “I’m truly shocked that the restaurant opened by 2 NFL players is sh-tty.”

But the good news is that the restaurant still has a 4.4 rating on Google. Additionally, Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s high-profile appearances at the venue created a lot of intrigue.

  • “I’m not trying to support this place, but this comes off as second-hand.”
  • “Looks like absolute trash.”

While the restaurant has received both positive and negative reviews, it seems that the real test will commence once the novelty fades. It will be interesting to see how they run a nearly 250-seat dining room months down the line. What do you think?
