Chiefs silenced the Dawg Pound, but at what cost? They walked out of Cleveland with a 21-7 win… However, their #15 Patrick Mahomes left the game with a right ankle injury. Questionable to return. And you know what’s up: that’s a headline no fan wants to read! But now, the Kingdom has a bone to pick with HC Andy Reid.

When asked about it, Reid didn’t exactly ease the nerves: “Patrick. His right ankle has been hurt. It’s not broken, but it’s sore. He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go. We’ll just have to see how he does down the road here.” Fair enough, Andy. But Chiefs fans are raising eyebrows and not about the extent of the injury. But why risk it in the first place? The decision seemed… off. Well, that’s not something we say about Big Reid often.

Here’s the kicker—leading by 14 in the fourth quarter, facing a fourth-and-3, Reid decided to keep Mahomes on the field. The result? An incomplete pass, a turnover on downs, and a disaster. Cleveland’s pass rush got through the line like a freight train, crumpling the pocket. Mahomes? Bent backward, his legs trapped awkwardly beneath him. You could feel the collective gasp from Arrowhead to Cleveland.

Mahomes limped off the field, his right ankle getting taped up on the sidelines. Chiefs fans everywhere were left holding their breath. Sure, the scoreboard says “win,” but the bigger question is: at what cost?

Chiefdom demands answers from Andy Reid over Patrick Mahomes decision

Patrick Mahomes tossed two touchdowns before an ankle injury ended his night prematurely. He got tossed around on the gridiron… (and that has been the theme this season, as Pat has been taking a lot more hits and that’s not sitting well with the Kingdom). Now, the sight of him leaving the locker room on a cart was enough to send Chiefs fans spiraling. As one fan wrote: “I LOVE Andy Reid. But that was a bad second half.”

Andy Reid, typically the epitome of calm, found himself in the spotlight—but not in a good way. High standards come with being one of the league’s most respected coaches, and this time, Reid’s decision-making had everyone talking. And it was but one decision. That one decision? Hmm…It was for a big guy.  So, it’s no surprise the Kingdom is feeling protective. One comment read: “Andy Reid is trying to get Mahomes killed. I am mindblown by how bad this coaching is right now.”

Mahomes, at 29, has racked up a résumé most quarterbacks can only dream about—three-time champion, two-time MVP, six-time Pro Bowler. Losing a player of that caliber would be devastating. Fans didn’t hold back, with one venting: Andy Reid puts this guy in so many bad situations. Crazy he’s been lucky this far.” Can you blame them? When your franchise QB is the face of the NFL, every decision feels monumental.

However, sometimes fans forget the beginning. Reid was the one to trust Pat with the Baptism with Fire. Obviously, the rest is history. But there’s not one without the other. It feels like at this point, fans are so heated that they’d take everything seriously as one even chimed in saying: “Mahomes and Andy Reid have been bad today.” A bit harsh… But those are the standards we are talking about here. Anything less and even fans can’t bear it. And if ‘bad’ is getting them the Ws, the league should brace itself for the good’.
