In the middle of an awful stretch, the NFL’s Week 6 fine list has hit the Cleveland camp. As they recover from a tough 23-9 loss to the Steelers and watch Joe Flacco come to life in Cincinnati, the Browns were reminded that integrity and accountability aren’t to be let up on the field. According to the latest NFL Game Accountability report, the team will be feeling it in their wallets.

The Browns were already fined three times this season. But after their Week 6 game, add two more to the list. Tight end David Njoku and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy were both fined for infractions during the game against Pittsburgh.

In the ninth minute of the first quarter, Jeudy landed a left-handed strike on Joey Porter Jr. Soon after, he was penalized for unnecessary roughness, adding 15 yards to 1st & 10. But the Saturday’s report revealed that he would be fined $12,172 for his action. As per ‘Section 2, Article 8’ of the NFL’s Rulebook, Juedy’s unnecessary roughness (which could have included striking, kicking, tripping, or kneeing) is prohibited.

This marked his second fine of the season after paying up 11,593 last month for taunting, as per the Gameday Accountability report.

As for Njoku, the tight end was fined $14,491 for obscene gestures towards the Steelers fans in the fourth quarter. He was walking towards the tunnel after suffering a knee injury that would keep him out this week when he decided to flip off the crowd.

And according to the rulebook, it falls under Section 3, Article 1: Unsportsmanlike Conduct. It will be his first fine this season.

However, Jeudy and Njoku were just two among the NFL’s 21-person accountability list for Week 6. Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen was hit the most: $23,186 for a blow to Dillon Gabriel’s head/neck.

This accountability initiative, which was developed in partnership with the NFL Players Association, acts as a watchdog to promote player safety and preserve the integrity and competitiveness of the game. The league, however, ensures that the fines, which have baselines varying by the type of violation, don’t exceed 10% of a player’s weekly earnings.

Regardless, it is another blip in an already rough season for both Jeudy and Njoku. Neither of the players has recorded a game with more than 70 receiving yards this season. Adding to more misery, the executive branch is also facing a rift among itself as the Browns enter Week 7.

HC-GM breakup? Fallout between Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry

Experts and insiders are spotting a growing strain and damaged trust between the Browns’ top decision-makers. The rift between head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry widened after the controversial Joe Flacco trade that led to the veteran QB thriving with the Cincinnati Bengals. The coach was bewildered by the trade.

Against Pittsburg, the QB threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns while completing 16 passes to Ja’Marr Chase for 161 yards and a score. And according to Nick Pedone of ‘92.3 The Fan’ podcast, “They’re [Browns] trying to find a path forward, and now that they’re losing, and now that you’re hearing things from national people… [saying] there could be a fracture in the relationship… that’s strange.”

Reporter Charles Robinson, who appeared on a Tennessee sports talk radio station earlier this week, revealed that there seemed to be issues between the HC and the GM. The quarterback shuffle hasn’t helped the Browns. With Flacco in Cincinnati, the Browns’ quarterback depth chart has shown concerns. The Browns have two rookies as their starting QB and backup.

Even the numbers tell the same story. Cleveland finds itself almost at the bottom in scoring at 13.7 points per game. They also struggle on the ground with just 90.7 rushing yards and have allowed 24.3 points per game. Offensive struggles and defensive lapses are glaring in the Cleveland camp.

If the ownership wants some change, the message is crystal clear: management is pointing at coaching for missed games and misaligned roster strategy. Gabriel is promoted to the starter duties, but if the offense cannot perform even with several experiments, Stefanski will come under the spotlight. What do you think?
