The Cleveland Browns quarterback situation has been nothing short of chaotic this season. They shipped veteran Joe Flacco to a divisional rival who thrived after reaching his new team. Rookie Dillon Gabriel hasn’t quite found his groove, and Deshaun Watson, fresh off a long absence from action, is on standby. However, it looks like head coach Kevin Stefanski and the Browns have finally found a solution to that. Well, at least for the remainder of the season.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Stefanski officially named Shedeur Sanders as the Browns’ starter for the remainder of the season. “He has constantly and consistently gotten better,” Pelissero quotes Stefanski.

After beginning the year as the No. 3 quarterback, Sanders was promoted to QB2 behind Dillon Gabriel in October, with Kevin Stefanski publicly confirming him as the backup at that time. Following Gabriel’s concussion and a strong first start in a 24–10 win over the Raiders, Stefanski kept Sanders as the starter even after Gabriel was medically cleared, signaling clear confidence in him as QB1. Sanders kept proving himself despite a bump in just the next game.

After a shaky follow-up performance against the 49ers, where he went 16 for 25 for just 149 yards, Sanders bounced back in week 14. He mounted a monster 364-yard outing and three touchdowns against the Titans, proving he’s ready to take the reins.

While it’s safe to say that Cleveland won’t be making any quarterback changes this season, the rookie knows he can’t ignore the mistakes that are stirring frustration in the locker room.

One pick, big frustration: Browns locker room feels Sanders’ sting

Despite putting up monster numbers, 364 yards, a 97.7 passer rating, 56.1 QBR, and an 8.7-yard average per throw, rookie Shedeur Sanders faced serious locker room frustrations after a costly third-quarter interception in the Browns’ 31-29 loss to the Titans on Sunday. That turnover directly set up Tennessee’s go-ahead touchdown. Even Sanders knows he has to tighten his cleats and push harder to avoid making mistakes like this again.

“Definitely on the interception,” he said. “I feel we stagnant. I’m trying to get a spark. And as the game goes on, as time go on, and I know my dad mad at me for that for sure. I know the team, everybody is. But I would say as time goes on, those decisions and those things will slim down.”

Shedeur Sanders threw his lone interception in the third quarter on a second-and-20 play when trailing 24-17.

Under pressure, Sanders avoided the rush but forced a late throw over the middle instead of discarding the ball, resulting in a pick by Titans safety Xavier Woods, who returned it 35 yards into Browns territory. Two plays later, Titans RB Tony Pollard scored on a 32-yard TD run, extending Tennessee’s lead to 31-17 and shifting momentum after a blocked punt and fumble.

Even though it might seem like the Browns are officially out of the playoff race, if Sanders continues to deliver Week 14-level performances and cleans up the small mistakes, they still have a thin chance to tie for the AFC North lead by the end of this season.
