The Happy New Year didn’t bring happy news for the San Francisco 49ers and the QB, Brock Purdy. Talk about a worst-case scenario for the Niners fans. Started the season being one of the favorites for the Super Bowl title and here we are at the beginning of a new year as the NFC West team is already eliminated from the playoffs.

With one more game remaining in the regular season, the 49ers want to end the season on a decent note. However, the head coach, Kyle Shanahan, announced not a long time ago that their QB sustained a right elbow contusion with nerve inflammation and will miss the season-ending game against the Cardinals.

As the Niners are already out of playoff contention, it appears that Purdy is done with this season. Shanahan also revealed that there are no long-term implications of the injury for the QB. Well, it’s kind of good news for the San Francisco team as there’s still one more season left in Purdy’s contract.

The 25-year-old sustained an injury against the Detroit Lions after the Lions’ safety, Brian Branch, sacked him in the fourth quarter. He went down hard on his right arm and, after trying a few throws, had to leave the game. And just a little while back, the head coach revealed that the QB was experiencing nerve discomfort in the elbow. Not to mention, Purdy had surgery for the same injury issues in March 2022.

After the game, Purdy described his elbow injury sensation as,“on fire and didn’t feel right.” So here’s the deal—doctors are going to take a closer look at his injury. Word is, he’s scheduled for an MRI on the surgically repaired elbow. Definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on.

Brock Purdy’s season nears an end with the Niners

Well, it wasn’t the only injury that the star QB had sustained this season. Purdy had to miss out on the week 12 game against the Green Bay Packers due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in the week 11 showdown against the Seahawks. Adding to the frustration of the Niners fans, the Lions clinched a solid win over the San Francisco team.

That’s a pretty embarrassing wrap up of the year for the team. With a season-ending game remaining against the Arizona team, Joshua Dobbs will step up as the starting QB for the 49ers in the absence of Purdy. While we are on the subject of season-ending, Brock Purdy is finishing his 3rd year with San Francisco amassing nearly 4,000 yards at an average of 8.5 yards per carry, and 20 TDs.

The 49ers? Yeah, they’re probably ready to put this season behind them, especially after coming into it as last year’s runners-up. With the season winding down, 49ers fans are just hoping to catch one more win before it’s all over.
