The Buffalo Bills started off the season 4-0, looking like sure-sure title contenders. But it was clear that Josh Allen’s receiving corps was thin. That sentiment solidified after two consecutive losses. The Bills want a solid weapon for their QB, and hence, they are reportedly eyeing Las Vegas Raiders wideout Jakobi Meyers as a potential fix. But it turns out they’re not the only ones trying to make that happen.

Meyers, who signed a 3-year, $33,000,000 contract in 2023, actually asked for a trade before the 2025 season even started, but the Raiders didn’t grant it. Recently, when asked if he still wanted out, he wasn’t too subtle: “Oh, for sure. But I’m a professional at the end of the day. I’m just trying to play good football.”
It’s not hard to understand where he’s coming from. Pete Carroll’s Raiders are off to a miserable 2-5 start, dead last in the AFC West. Quarterback Geno Smith is having a nightmare season, leading the league with 10 interceptions and being sacked 19 times. Meyers has been one of the few bright spots on that team and deserves a better situation. Additionally, he is going to be a free agent next year. Hence, Meyers wants a change.

The Steelers or Giants wouldn’t be bad landing spots either. Pittsburgh made waves this offseason by trading for DK Metcalf, who’s been solid with 461 receiving yards so far. But after shipping George Pickens off to the Cowboys, they’re thin at WR2. TE Pat Freiermuth is second on the team in receiving yards with only 200, which says it all. A Meyers-Metcalf duo? That wouldn’t be nasty, but it will be competitive.

Then there’s the Giants, whose receiving situation is just bleak. Malik Nabers is out for the season, and running back Cam Skattebo’s injury only made things worse. If Meyers landed there, he’d instantly become their No. 1 target. But with New York’s playoff hopes fading fast, it might not be the ideal move for someone looking to compete.
So yeah, Buffalo still feels like the best fit. The Bills are talented, but their receivers aren’t quite championship caliber. Keon Coleman hasn’t taken that next step the team was banking on, and while Khalil Shakir leads the group statistically, he’s not the kind of WR1 that scares defenses.
Jakobe Meyers would instantly be a pivotal weapon in the receiving corps and might just make their title hopes a realistic dream. Giving Josh Allen a top WR could change everything. Add in the fact that Keon Coleman’s season is going from bad to worse after he drew criticism from legendary wide receiver Steve Smith.

Keon Coleman responds to Steve Smith
Coleman’s situation has gotten even messier after being called out by legendary receiver Steve Smith on his podcast “89.” “He ain’t the guy. Can’t get separation, can’t get off the jam, doesn’t have it. You reached and got burned. You can’t teach a dog how to bark. You either got it or you don’t. And the problem is, can he be a dog? I don’t know,” Smith said.
Coleman fired back on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple “😂😂😂😂,” and later downplayed the whole thing when asked about it. “I don’t even really know what he said,” Coleman told reporters. “That’s why I said no comment.”

Still, he acknowledged his slow start to the year. “It might be games like Baltimore where I get off, and other games like last week (Khalil Shakir) get the yards,” he said. After a promising rookie season, expectations were high this year. Probably part of why the Bills didn’t chase a big-name receiver in the offseason.
But so far, he hasn’t delivered. Coleman has put up just 27 catches on 39 targets for 267 yards and a fumble. Fans are frustrated, and critics have been piling on. The good news? There’s still time to flip the narrative, and next week’s matchup against the Chiefs would be the perfect stage for him to prove the doubters wrong.
