The New York Giants’ former head coach is remembered fondly for his previous contributions. He has previously served as the offensive coordinator of the Bills from 2018 to 2021. Over four seasons in Buffalo, he helped turn Josh Allen from a raw arm talent into an MVP runner-up.
Under Daboll, Buffalo won back-to-back AFC East titles, reached the AFC Championship Game in 2020, and posted three double-digit win seasons. The offense exploded in 2020, finishing second in both points and yards per game. The Bills stayed elite, ranking top five in both points and yards again in 2021. That stretch cemented Daboll’s reputation. That track record is exactly why Bills fans would be excited for a return as a head coach.
Daboll possesses a rare Super Bowl pedigree (5 rings as a player) that still matters as Buffalo continues its hunt for a first Lombardi. That experience carries weight for a Bills team stuck just short of the ultimate stage. While his head-coaching record with the Giants painted a rough picture, one detail stood out through the losses: the growth of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Daboll once again showed his ability to accelerate an offense’s development. If that track record is paired once more with an elite talent like Josh Allen, it hints at why Daboll’s presence still feels relevant to Buffalo’s Super Bowl aspirations.

Besides Brian Daboll, the franchise also recently concluded an interview with Joe Brady, who is the current offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills. On Friday, the franchise is set to interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel in person. Though McDaniel’s latest season was one to forget, his initial record with the Dolphins stood out as he had back to back post-season appearances with the team.
It is not just the front office making the calls this time. Quarterback Josh Allen is reportedly expected to have a significant voice in the final decision, underlining how central this hire is to Buffalo’s future. With many more interviews lined up, the QB will be busy this weekend.

On Saturday, the Bills will sit down with Washington Commanders run-game coordinator Anthony Lynn and former Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Sunday brings another offensive mind into the mix, with Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski scheduled for an interview. Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has also entered the picture, signaling that Buffalo is casting a wide net as it searches for the coach to finally push them over the Super Bowl hump.
Bills owner reveals Josh Allen’s role in search for the new head coach
Terry Pegula has finally pulled back the curtain on one of the Bills’ biggest decisions of the offseason. The owner admitted he did not consult Josh Allen before firing Sean McDermott, stressing that the reigning MVP quarterback had “no input” in that call. However, that line has shifted quickly.

As Buffalo moves forward, Allen is now expected to have a real voice in the head coaching search, with Pegula explaining why the franchise quarterback is being brought into the process this time around.
Newly promoted president of football operations and general manager Brandon Beane made it clear that Buffalo’s next head coach will not be chosen behind closed doors. Speaking on the process, Beane stressed that the search will be fully collaborative, involving owner Terry Pegula, chief operating officer Pete Guelli, assistant general manager Brian Gaine, and Laura Pegula.

Most notably, franchise quarterback Josh Allen will also be part of the discussions, signaling just how central his voice has become as the Bills look to reset their direction.

For Buffalo, this search is no longer about fixing what went wrong. It is about finally finishing what has been started for years. With Josh Allen in his prime, the front office aligned, and familiar names possibly back in the room, the Bills are chasing more than stability. They are chasing the one thing that has kept slipping through their fingers: a Lombardi Trophy.
