Essentials Inside The Story

  • 36-year-old Joe Brady has been finalized as the Bills’ next head coach after serving as the Bills' OC for the past two seasons
  • Brady has agreed to a five-year contract with the Buffalo Bills
  • By promoting from within, the Bills are prioritizing continuity, specifically to maintain the chemistry between Brady and star QB Josh Allen

Under Sean McDermott’s leadership, the Buffalo Bills consistently put together strong regular seasons but never managed to reach the Super Bowl during his nine-year tenure. And after the franchise decided to move on, Buffalo explored multiple options in its search for a new head coach. In the end, though, the Bills chose to look inward for their next leader.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Buffalo is finalizing a deal to promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady as the team’s next head coach. With that move, Josh Allen and the Bills are clearly placing their trust in Brady to take them where McDermott couldn’t. Now, it’s time to take a closer look at Brady’s contract with the Bills, his NFL earnings, and his net worth.

What is Joe Brady’s contract with the Bills?

Despite interviewing several familiar candidates, the Bills’ settling on Joe Brady isn’t hard to understand. The 36-year-old is already well-acquainted with the organization and, more importantly, with Allen. Buffalo hired Brady in 2022 as its quarterbacks coach following his two-year stint with the Carolina Panthers. And when the Bills moved on from Ken Dorsey, Brady stepped in as interim offensive coordinator before officially taking over the role in 2024.

According to Schefter, the Bills have promoted Brady to head coach on a five-year contract. The franchise is expecting big things from him, and the numbers help explain why.

Since Brady took over play-calling duties in 2023, the Bills have ranked first in EPA per play (0.14) and second in points per game (29.1). They also recorded nine games with 30-plus points this season, tied with the Los Angeles Rams for the most in the league. And with Brady calling the shots, Allen captured his first MVP award in the 2024 season. How Brady ultimately reshapes the Bills as a head coach remains to be seen.

What are the net worth and NFL career earnings of the Bills’ new head coach?

While it’s still unclear how much Joe Brady earned during his time as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, an NBC report shared that NFL offensive coordinators typically make around $1 million per year. Now, though, Brady is set to lead Buffalo as its next head coach. Even so, the exact value of his five-year deal and his total NFL career earnings remain unknown. This is because teams don’t always disclose coaching salaries.

What we do know is the broader market. Top head coaches around the league earn in the high single-digit to double-digit millions annually. Andy Reid’s $20 million per year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and Sean Payton’s $18 million per year contract with the Denver Broncos set the high-end benchmark.

And for first-time or younger head coaches, those numbers usually fall into the single-digit range. Where Brady’s deal lands within that spectrum is still anyone’s guess, which also makes it difficult to pin down his net worth after nearly a decade in the NFL coaching ranks.

Who is Joe Brady’s wife?

At the center of Brady’s off-field life is his wife, Lauren Brady. Long before Brady’s Bills chapter began, the two had already laid the foundation of a steady relationship that mirrored the clarity Brady brings to an offense.

That next step came in June 2021, when Brady asked Lauren to marry him. He shared the moment on social media, proudly calling her “my fiancée” in an Instagram post. A year later, the couple made it official. Joe and Lauren tied the knot on June 25, 2022, marking the start of a new chapter away from football. “6.25.22 was a dream, and so is forever with you,” Lauren wrote in a heartfelt caption while sharing the news.

Since then, plenty has changed, both personally and professionally. While Brady’s football journey has continued to accelerate, his family has grown as well.

Does the Bills’ new head coach have kids?

Joe and Lauren Brady are parents of two little girls. A couple of years ago, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, with Lauren posting a photo on Instagram featuring a shirt reading “Baby Brady April 2023,” paired with a tiny set of Jordans. Fast forward to the 2025 season, and the Brady household is a family of four. Just over a month ago, Joe and Lauren welcomed their second child, another daughter.

The timing even crossed into game day. After a Bills regular-season win, McDermott handed Josh Allen one of the game balls. However, Allen passed it along to Brady, congratulating him on the birth of his second child. When Brady first arrived in Buffalo, he was still early in his personal journey. Now, he’s a married man, a father of two girls, and the head coach of the Bills. The résumé has grown, the responsibilities have multiplied, and the next chapter, both on and off the field, is officially underway.
