In 2017, Tony Romo walked straight from the field into the CBS booth and replaced Phil Simms, who moved to The NFL Today. Nine years later, the network is shuffling its top booth again. CBS announced JJ Watt as Romo’s replacement on its lead team with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson. So when a Chiefs-Raiders promo ran the wrong photo of Wolfson, she had one question in mind.

“Am I being replaced? That’s not me! 😂” Wolfson wrote on X.

Tracy Wolfson is a veteran and lead NFL game reporter for CBS Sports. Hence, ahead of the Week 4 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, when Wolfson came across a broadcast crew poster featuring her, she couldn’t recognise herself.

The poster does seem heavily edited or enhanced, which confused Wolfson. However, as part of CBS Sports’ No. 1 broadcast crew, Wolfson will be reporting live from the sidelines at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Tracy Wolfson has been a mainstay at CBS Sports for over 22 years in an on-air capacity, having officially rejoined the network as a full-time reporter in 2004. However, her history with the network goes back even further; she originally broke into the industry at CBS as a behind-the-scenes researcher in 1997.

In May 2014, CBS Sports officially named Wolfson the lead game reporter for the NFL. Over the last 12 seasons, she has served as the lead sideline reporter for the network’s top game each Sunday, working closely with the primary broadcast booth team (initially Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, and later Jim Nantz and Tony Romo).

Today, Wolfson is recognized as a premier sports broadcaster, boasting nine Emmy Award nominations and three consecutive Sports Emmy Awards (2024, 2025, 2026) for Outstanding Sideline Reporter.

As for the Week 4 game, she will be assisting Jim Nantz (play-by-play) and J.J. Watt (color analyst). However, Tracy Wolfson’s fear about being replaced is not without reason.

J.J. Watt has temporarily replaced Tony Romo alongside Nantz and Wolfson. On July 23, 2026, Romo was pulled over and arrested by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

The Wisconsin court found Romo guilty, revoked his driving privileges for six months, ordered him to pay a $784 fine, and mandated that he complete an alcohol assessment program.

As for his employer, CBS has been completely tight-lipped about the timeline, releasing only a one-sentence statement confirming he is on leave “until further notice.” Due to this, they had to find a replacement.

CBS found J.J. Watt as Tony Romo’s replacement, joining Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for the 2026 season. Unlike the recent changes in the booth, Wolfson’s reaction was purely lighthearted, poking fun at the mix-up on the Chiefs vs. Raiders broadcast poster.
