A few months ago, after a challenging and arguably the worst couple of seasons of his career, Aaron Rodgers decided to fly across the country to talk with the Jets‘ new regime. Why? To find out if there’s any possibility of him playing one more season in New York. No media circus, no fancy welcome—just him walking into the facility hoping for a grown-up conversation. But instead of diving into plans or picking his brain, the vibe shifted fast.

A short talk, some awkward energy, and suddenly, Rodgers got the message loud and clear: the Jets were moving on. Just like that. Fast forward to now, and the 41-year-old reportedly explained his conversation with the Jets’ head coach, Aaron Glenn, and general manager, Darren Mougey. What went down during the meeting?

On Thursday, Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and talked about his brief conversation with the head coach and the general manager. The veteran QB revealed that he flew to New Jersey from California, hoping for a lengthy meeting. However, he was taken aback after finding out the HC ended the meeting within 40 minutes—a meeting that started with Glenn “moving out of the room” to bring in Mougey.

“That was kind of strange…,” Rodgers said. “I think we are going to have this long conversation. I’ve flown across the country, and 20 seconds in, he (Glenn) goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, ‘so you want to play football?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he was like, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.” Well, the four-time MVP wasn’t shocked that the team wanted to go in different directions.

Oh no. In fact, the man actually flew across the country just to hear something they could’ve told him over a quick phone call. “I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think it was a possibility, but shocked because I just flew across the country and you could’ve told me this over the phone,” Rodgers continued. As per the QB, all the Jets really cared about was how the news would be announced (through messaging)—like they were more worried about the PR than actually talking things through with him.

The kicker? “I don’t give a s–t about the messaging. Why?” That was Rodgers’ response. To top all that off, Rodgers claimed that Glenn thought that he might mess with his authority or message. Why? Well, the HC worried that if the QB stayed on the roster, he might say—or worse, do things that would go against what Glenn was trying to tell or build with the team. Diabolical!

“It was a very strange meeting, for sure,” the QB further continued. “There was no me pleading, ‘please have me on the team.’ I don’t want to be a part of that. It was already a debacle in some cases. That whole situation was crazy. That was a little rogue by the head coach.” To make it even worse, the QB felt disrespected during his meeting with the Jets’ regime. The reason?

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Jets disrespect Aaron Rodgers, or was it just time for a fresh start?

Have an interesting take?

See it this way: the man’s been around the block, has insight, has leadership experience—and nobody asked for his input? However, Rodgers later admitted that he had a chat with the GM after the meeting and was complimentary of Christopher Johnson, the brother of the owner, Woody Johnson. All in all, it’s safe to say that Aaron Rodgers isn’t a great fan of Aaron Glenn, and his meeting with the Jets didn’t go well.

Fast forward to now, and everyone’s waiting for his decision to play in 2025.

Would that be the Steelers or retirement for Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Rodgers’ journey with the Jets was anything but smooth. The man signed a three-year deal with the Jets, and his first season was wrapped up just after four snaps. A lot of folks thought—and Rodgers probably hoped—he’d make a heroic comeback in his second season. But yeah, that didn’t really go as planned. Rodgers wrapped up the 2024 season with 5-12.

Sure, the team brought Devante Adams on their roster, but still, the 41-year-old couldn’t lead the team past 3-8. And oh, along the way, he also racked up 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Fast forward to now, and the rumors are linking him to sign a deal with the Steelers for a very long time. All eyes are on the QB. Whether he’s going to sign with the Steelers or going to call it a career.

But here’s the catch—during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers admitted that a lot of things are going on in his personal life, and currently, he’s focused on that. “I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” he said. “Retirement still could be a possibility. … Right now my focus is, and has been, and will continue to be on my personal life.” Whether he wants to play in Pittsburgh or not, the man at least confirmed that it’s not about the money.

“It ain’t about the money,” Rodgers said on Thursday. “I’ll play for 10Ms. I don’t care. I never once said I needed a multi-year deal.” A lot of things came to light during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. But his future in the NFL? Well, it’s still uncertain. The Jets moved on in different directions with him. The Giants signed two other vets instead of playing a waiting game. The Vikings are confident in their second-year QB. J.J. McCarthy.

Now, the Steelers do want him. But we still need to wait for a few more days before getting an official confirmation on Aaron Rodgers’ future. Is it going to be the Steelers or is it going to be the retirement?
