Oh no, not again! Here comes a déjà vu moment for the Colorado Buffaloes program. And it definitely does not bring back any ‘feel good’ vibes. All thanks to Deion Sanders’ offensive lineman, Cash Cleveland. The player has hit the transfer portal this spring. And it definitely brings up the memories of the dark past from last spring. That’s because Cleveland chose to follow former Buffs cornerback Cormani McClain, who, too, had jumped into the portal last April. However, while making his way out, there followed some dirty mudslinging. Back then, a college football insider had ripped McClain apart for his unprofessional move. Cleveland’s decision triggers that old version of the insider.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder from Rockwall, Texas, played his senior year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.. Unfortunately, he did not find many suitors who were ready to give him a chance to break through in college. The only two schools to pursue him were Deion’s Colorado and Georgia Tech. Finally, he landed with the Buffs on December 22, 2023. The freshman’s college debut came against Arizona. Cleveland didn’t need long to show his potential at Boulder. The 6’3”, 330 lbs star logged 315 snaps and started in four of six games. With this, he became a Pro Football Focus freshman All-American center, with a 68.7 grade, including 77.5 in pass blocking. And here comes the heartbreaking news.

Cleveland has hit the exit door. On that note, college football analyst DJ Blessone, aka IsmokeHipHop, became too upset. On April 18, he took to his podcast to state: “Y’all are out here acting like this [is] a feel-good story. We [are] ripping up people like Nico [Iamaleava]. We going off at everybody what Cormani went through with the fan base including I went at Cormani.” After that, Blessone did address the elephant in the room.

He did not bother to tone down or sugarcoat his words while sending a tough message in Cleveland’s way. “Cash, I’m going to tell you the truth about yourself. I don’t care if Coach Prime is going to forgive you… Cash it ain’t okay, you’re mediocre at best dawg.” He then revealed how Cleveland thought of playing it smart.

“You wasn’t even this raw talent that we had. I’m mad because I see how dudes like y’all use a situation, and you ain’t humbled enough to let that situation furthermore help you. You got what you needed, you stole clout from this university, so you can go elsewhere for the money.” Well, there might be a couple of reasons that might propel Cleveland to hit the ‘SWAP’ button. For instance, playing time, fit, but it turns out that better financial opportunities might be the biggest reason. Now, let’s travel back to April 2024…

Ghosts of Cormani McClain’s past come up with Cash Cleveland’s exit

McClain chose to hit the transfer portal. That was fine. What was not fine was the drama that revolved around his exit. He left no stone unturned to bring down Coach Prime’s Colorado. Going by his claims, he felt demotivated and stunted while staying in Boulder and claimed, “I feel like I just don’t want to play for clicks… I’m just ready to bring the old version of me out and change the narrative of everyone’s thinking on my name [and] be a part of a real and a great program that’s going to impact me at my best ability.” Obviously this did not sit well with Blessone.

To him, McClain’s behavior came off as unprofessional and immature. So, he did not inch back before calling the cornerback out. “We’re talking about the immature attitude, lack of work ethic, no accountability, and being just a snotty brat who’s been coddled his whole life by his mother.” Not just the CFB insider, Cleveland’s old mate Jordan Seaton, came up with a cryptic message expressing his disapproval of the new college football landscape on social media.

Now it’s all a money game. But hardly did Jordan Seaton expect to lose his old mate to this new trend. He and Cash Cleveland walked into Boulder together from the IMG Academy. The two quickly developed a bond that extended beyond their shared high school pedigree. On Cleveland’s departure, Colorado Freshman All-American offensive tackle posted a pointed message. It read, “Sports crazy Now… can’t even build a true brotherhood anymore too much I and ME.” Let’s just hope Cleveland didn’t buy a ticket on the Cormani McClain rollercoaster— one that ends with a ‘locker room cancer’ label.
