Okay, so the spring season is not ushering in changes only in college football and the NFL. Amidst the players waiting to be taken up during the 2025 NFL Draft and others waiting to swap wagons in college football, the Senior Bowl also made a major alteration. The post-season college football all-star game is hiring Drew Fabianich as executive director. Fabianch is filling the shoes of the famous Jim Nagy, as Nagy’s chapter in the Senior Bowl came to an end after he had taken up the General Manager role at the University of Oklahoma. But who is Fabianich?

Drew Fabianich’s background, early life & family

Fabianich is a native of Longmont, Colorado. While he is known for his success in high school football, college football, and in the pro league, he is a family man. Fabianich has a family consisting of his wife, Heather, and four children. Two daughters, Ashleigh and Landis, and two sons, Dominic and Markus. They live in Morgantown, a picturesque city situated along the Monongahela River in North Central West Virginia. The former coach holds a BS degree in Kinesiology and is a 1987 graduate from Colorado Mesa University.

Drew Fabrianich’s career timeline

Jim Nagy bagged the role back in 2018. So, it has been a seven-year-long stint. In that case, Senior Bowl needed someone to replace him who had a strong resume. And when it’s Fabianich, no doubt in that. His latest stint was at West Virginia Mountaineers under Neal Brown. Back there, he served as the school’s General Manager and director of scouting in 2023-24. Before that, Fabianich spread his magic at Auburn in 2022 as the director of scouting and development. However, he is known mostly for his successful stint in the NFL. The Colorado native spent 18 years in the scouting department with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, where he joined in 2003 as a Southeast and Midwest scout. In that way, Fabianich is familiar with the nitty-gritties of the pro league and where exactly he needs to focus.

With the Cowboys, he helped Dallas draft players who combined for 67 Pro Bowls. Now that he has got a new role, he is ready for the challenge and promises great times ahead. “I am honored to be the new executive director of the Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl has been part of my life for over 18 years. I will embrace this game and the City of Mobile with passion, perseverance, purpose and a desire to continue to grow the premier all-star game in the country.” After all, by now, coaching comes as naturally as walking or talking for Fabianich. He started coaching in 1986 as Mesa State’s quarterbacks’ coach, then deposited GA stints at Baylor and Tennessee.

Fabianich then was the defensive ends coach and special teams/defensive graduate assistant at Tennessee (1990-93). He did not inch back while trying his hands as a defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Tennessee-Martin (1994-98). Fabianich switched to the same role at Louisiana-Monroe (1998-01) and the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at W.T. White High School (2001-03) before starting with the Cowboys.

A look back at Drew Fabianich’s salary

Back in 2023, Fabianich made $150,000, which is $50,000 less than the lowest-paid assistant coaches on the staff. In 2022, former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin hired him. Even though we do not have the exact number of his contract, the sources made a guess. Going by Fabianich’s rich experience, he would have easily commanded a salary around $200,000 to 300,000 in the NFL. Auburn offered him something comparable to what he would have drawn had he stayed in the pro league. Now that he has taken up his Executive Director role, looking at his past salaries, he is highly likely to draw a figure between $250,000 and $350,000. Looking forward to Drew Fabianich adding one more feather to his hat.
