“As Marcus Freeman walked through the doorway into the hallway, physical contact allegedly occurred between Marcus Freeman and Fleeger,” the Tribune reported, noting that police did not disclose the extent of the alleged contact.

The report further stated that once in the hallway, Fleeger and Freeman’s wife, Joanna Freeman, engaged in a shouting match before local law enforcement and Mishawaka school officials intervened and separated the parties. The Freeman family then left the venue voluntarily and was not asked to do so by authorities.

Police Report Filed, Case Sent to Prosecutor for Review

Following the incident, Fleeger filed a police report accusing Freeman of battery. Mishawaka Police completed their investigation and forwarded the findings to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.

As of January 12, the official police report has not been made public. No arrests have been made, and Freeman has not been charged.

Local beat reporter Matt Freeman wrote on X that the delay in releasing the report was due to the weekend, adding his belief that the matter would be dismissed. However, no official determination has been announced, and the prosecutor’s office has the final authority on whether the case proceeds.

Notre Dame issued a statement addressing the situation, saying that Vinny Freeman had been verbally accosted during and after his match by a local wrestling coach and that Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened to remove their son from the situation. The university stated that Marcus Freeman did not physically engage with anyone and expressed confidence that video evidence reviewed by police supports that position.

Notre Dame declined to provide further comment while the report remains unpublished.

At this stage, the situation remains under review, with no confirmed charges and no public release of the police report. Further clarity is expected once the prosecutor’s office completes its review.
