One stage, two coaching legends, and two completely different receptions. That was the story at the Peach Bowl when Atlanta’s fans passed judgment on Urban Meyer and Nick Saban. Folks in Mercedes-Benz Stadium made it crystal clear how they feel about Urban Meyer and Nick Saban.

According to Indiana Hoosiers insider Jared Kelly of 247Sports, Urban Meyer received a loud chorus of boos while being honored as part of the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class at midfield, reportedly from around 75,000 fans.

Despite a resume that includes two national championships, Urban Meyer’s career has been a rollercoaster of controversy, with fans often unable to separate his on-field success from a history of off-field issues.

Controversy marred Meyer’s track record, like the Zach Smith scandal at Ohio State. His worst chapter has to be his time coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, where he reportedly kicked a player and was involved in other off-field incidents. That chapter alone cemented his status as a polarizing figure.

In fact, he was also jeered during last season’s Orange Bowl between Notre Dame and Penn State, just before his initial Hall of Fame induction.

Nick Saban’s reception couldn’t have been more different.

According to Kelly, Saban got the hero’s honor from the crowd for obvious reasons. You would have a hard time finding any major controversy associated with Saban on the internet. Saban won an incredible seven national championships in total: one with LSU (2003) and six with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

What separates Saban even further is the absence of any controversial scandals. In an era where controversy often follows greatness, Nick Saban is one of the few coaches who has built a 15-plus-year dynasty.

Yes, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer’s case is a classic example of how a coach’s reputation and public perception can overshadow their on-field achievements.

Just like Urban Meyer, the Oregon Ducks are also getting booed on the field. Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers are gunning down the Ducks in the worst manner possible.

Not many people were actually surprised that Indiana was dominating entering the Peach Bowl. But nobody, in their wildest dreams, expected the Indiana Hoosiers to put up a 42–7 lead with 25 minutes left in the game.

The game’s tone was set on the opening drive when an errant pass resulted in a pick-six for the Hoosiers, and the rout was on. From there, it was a one-sided beating as Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza carved up the Ducks’ secondary, tossing four touchdowns before the third quarter was even over.

On the other hand, the Ducks’ star QB, Dante Moore, had been under constant pressure and wasn’t able to get into a rhythm like he did all season.

Despite all this, Dan Lanning still had some faith in his squad to mount a comeback. A faith that ultimately proved fruitless.
