Kirby Smart’s Georgia deals with locker room troubles as a handful of players left for the transfer portal. And the latest to leave was the four-star OT on whom Kirby Smart invested his hopes to build a stronger offensive line.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Georgia’s OT Bo Hughley announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal through his agents. He has two years of eligibility left. The 6-foot-7, 295-pound lineman had two starts in the last two seasons in the rotational role. In addition to being a backup tackle, he also played a key role in special teams.

Hughley was a four-star recruit graduating from Langston Hughes High School in 2023. He was a dual-sport athlete who also played basketball. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-American second-team selection. He earned recognition for allowing zero sacks for Lanston Hughes and carried his team to an 11-2 record and to the Peach State’s AAAAAA Playoffs.

His massive body frame and incredible high school stats made him the 12th best OT in the country and the seventh overall player in Georgia. Hughley had 24 offers as a high school prospect from top schools in the country, including Colorado, Nebraska, Auburn, Arizona State, Florida, Maryland, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Louisville, and others. Among them, Nebraska offered him twice, trying to recruit the four-star OT, but he joined the home team, Georgia.
He was expected to be a massive addition for the offensive line, but the limited playing time and rotation of offensive linemen didn’t showcase his full potential. Kirby Smart even praised him and provided hope for the future seasons, but Hughley left the program to look for a new home elsewhere.
Kirby Smart praised Bo Hughley’s play
During the midseason, Hughley had his first start against Alabama after being in a prolonged rotational role. Though the Bulldogs lost the game, Bo Hughley was praised by Kirby Smart for the passion he has for the game and the continuous growth as a player.
“Bo, as I talked about after the game, he embodies fire, passion, and energy,” Kirby Smart told reporters in October. “The guy’s happy every day at practice. He loves football. He works his butt off. I mean, he competes. He goes out, and it doesn’t matter who’s in front of him; he’s going to go to war and fight with them.
And he did it at the left and right tackle. He’s come in the pinch and played well in multiple games. He’s a kid that I enjoy coaching and love being around, and he continues to get better. He’ll continue to get better because of the way he works and the way he practices.”
While he was expected to have more playtime in the upcoming seasons, the OT left the program. With this, Hughley became the eighth player from the 2025 roster and the second offensive lineman, after Nyier Daniels, to enter the 2026 NCAA Transfer Portal.
