Sherrone Moore is surely downplaying his feat of getting the No. 1 player overall of the 2025 recruiting class. He just had to send Connor Stalions over to Bellville High to flip Bryce Underwood from LSU. Now that he’s here, and the fact that Moore will be hoping to make a repeat of the 2023 victory. Naturally, the most elite player of the class will have the whole community’s attention on him. It’s up to Underwood whether he basks in it or not. Moore, however, is not interested in that aspect of the QB at all.
In November 2024, Underwood made the drastic decision to flip to the Wolverines, out of the blue. This was after he broke two MHSAA state records: for the highest career passing and total touchdowns. From his senior year, Bryce Underwood will be carrying a whopping record of 2,509 passing yards, 32 TDs, and 6 INTs. Not only that, but his entire high school career is a stellar 50-4. All those numbers and feats made Underwood the most attractive player in the class, and he had offers from the biggest programs in CFB. Compared to other 5-star recruits, Underwood enjoys a higher degree of fame. HC Sherron Moore, however, has different plans for him.
He does not seem to be interested in putting Underwood on a pedestal. On April 14, Moore appeared on the Big 10 Football show and was asked to name a few players that stood out from spring practice. If you thought Moore would at least spend a good minute about Underwood, you’re wrong. He answered like a proper HC. In fact, it was only after he mentioned edge rushers – Derrick Moore was the first name he mentioned, by the way – that Moore touched upon the QB room.

He said, “On the offensive side of the ball, both quarterbacks man have been good. Jadyn Davis, Bryce Underwood… Mikey Keene‘s been working through something.” That’s all there was about Underwood from Moore. “Those guys have been taking the bulk of the reps and they’ve been great,” he said. Moore found it tough to spotlight just one or two names. “It’s hard to shine it on one guy or two guys when you feel like you got a really good group of players as a team,” the HC said. At Michigan, football-wise, Moore is focused on getting the whole team up to mark. That includes treating Underwood just like every other guy on the roster.

Underwood, too, seems to be focused on his game. Junior WR Semaj Morgan told On3, “He knows what he’s doing, and he takes it really seriously. He always took it seriously, but he just grew more into the game. He’s making it his own, and he won’t let it be too fast for him or anything like that.” Moore, too, appreciates Underwood’s dedication to the sport.
Bryce Underwood is 100% all in at Michigan practice
Bryce Underwood is one of the most important storylines of CFB at the moment, so naturally, Sherrone Moore had some things to say about him. According to him, the star QB is not interested in anything apart from football at all. Moore said, “He really is addicted to football. He loves it; he loves the preparation and he loves the grind.” Underwood is so locked in that the way he keeps at it has become unhealthy. “Sometimes, you got to tell him ‘Dude, like, you need to get some sleep,’” Moore added. Well, we need the star player of the class to steer clear of wear and tear! But Moore, in general, has only good things to say about him.

In practice two, Underwood has been living up to that fame. With Mikey Keene not being able to join practice yet, Underwood and Davis received a good number of reps. Both of them made some “unreal” and “crazy” throws in practice, according to Morgan. DB coach LaMar Morgan noted that Underwood is a constant face in Schembechler Hall, either training or speaking to coaches. All in all, it looks like Michigan football is just the right fit for Underwood.
