South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson has shared a hopeful health update nearly two months after a horrific car crash that left him seriously injured. Back in late August, Robertson was involved in a violent accident that could have easily taken his life. A month ago, he shared some terrifying photos from the crash. His mangled car, a picture of himself in the hospital, and another with his children by his side. “A little over five weeks ago, my entire world shifted for me and for my family,” Robertson wrote at the time, reflecting on the near-tragic ordeal.

Now, after a long and painful recovery process, the South Carolina assistant has offered an encouraging update. On Monday, Robertson revealed that his final surgery was successful and that he’s finally back home. “Feeling so thankful my last surgery was a success!” Robertson wrote on X, “I can’t thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Prisma Health Hospital enough for their care and kindness. Grateful to finally be home to heal and rest.”

The impact of the crash was so severe that many within the Gamecock community described his survival as nothing short of miraculous. Robertson spent weeks in the hospital with catastrophic injuries, later returning to his coaching duties despite being unable to stand for long, often working from a chair on the sideline. Earlier this month, head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that Robertson had undergone multiple surgeries since the crash and was steadily improving. Beamer said Robertson had even sent him a photo of the screws removed from his feet.

“So he sent me a picture of all the screws that had been in his feet, which wasn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever seen when he sent me that one, but proud, glad he got the screws out, and I think he said maybe one more surgery. And then after that, he felt like he’d be on his feet and kind of moving forward at a fast pace, so optimistic that he’ll be back out there coaching soon,” Beamer said.

Robertson, who’s been with the Gamecocks since 2023, played for South Carolina from 2007 to 2011 under Steve Spurrier. His return to Columbia as defensive line coach marked a homecoming. Now, in Robertson’s absence, Jordan Dove has temporarily handled defensive line duties, but with this latest update, optimism is high that Robertson could make a full return in due time.
