Two weeks ago, Brady Edmunds hinted that something special was coming. On Thursday night, the Ohio State commit QB made sure Millikan got the full warning. Edmunds took control from the opening minute, powering Huntington Beach to a dominant 42-14 road victory while breaking multiple records along the way.

“Just 2 weeks away! Can’t wait to show everyone how hard this group has been working,” wrote Edmunds on his X handle while sharing multiple snaps of himself working out with his teammates, and the hard work certainly paid off.

On Thursday, Edmunds wasted no time making his senior season memorable. He set a school record with 446 passing yards while accounting for six touchdowns in the win. The Ohio State commit completed 25 of 32 passes, a career-best performance, and added another 30 yards on the ground.

His lone mistake came on the second play after halftime, when he threw an interception to Millikan defensive back Matteo Palma. He has pushed his career total to 9,083 yards, and if he continues at the same pace, Edmunds is certain to reach 10,000 yards before the Delta League kicks off on Oct. 2.

Huntington Beach was already up 14-0 at halftime, but the team shifted gears after the break, with the connection between Edmunds and senior three-star Dylin Bruce driving the surge. Three of Edmunds’ touchdown passes went to Bruce, who hauled in 10 receptions for 225 yards.

“I caught the ball, I’d seen green grass,” Bruce said of the first, per LA Times. “I had to go. I knew it was my touchdown.”

While Edmunds’ 25 completions were a career high, his overall record has been even more impressive. Across 37 games for the Oilers, he has already surpassed 9,000 passing yards and 98 touchdowns.

“Brady’s a good quarterback,” said Millikan High School’s head coach Romeo Pellum, per the LA Times. “Man, he’s a really good quarterback, probably number one in the country, in my opinion.”

The Millikan High School head coach further explained that what makes Edmunds so hard to defend is his competitive fire and the variety of throws he can execute.

“He can pick you apart: if you’re playing off, he’s going to throw short; if you’re lacking, he’s going to take his shots. And he has good touch on the ball. But we had our opportunities–when we made mistakes, he made us pay,” said the head coach, per The 562.

According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, Edmunds is the No. 234 overall prospect and the No. 18 quarterback in the class. His performance on Thursday might have put a big smile on Ohio State’s face.

Brady Edmunds and Ohio State’s back-and-forth saga

Brady Edmunds committed to Ohio State in December 2024. However, the story took a different turn when the Buckeyes’ coaching staff continued to evaluate and actively recruit other top quarterbacks in the 2027 class. This certainly made Edmunds a bit worried, as he came close to decommitting in favor of UCLA.

This was especially true after UCLA pushed forward and did everything to bring him under its banner. However, in July, Edmunds ultimately announced that he was ending his college search, promising to join Ohio State.

“I am shutting down my recruitment. I’m grateful to all the programs that showed interest in me, but Columbus is home,” Edmunds said in an X post. “Looking forward to competing and helping bring another National Championship back to the state of Ohio! Go Bucks!!!”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Edmunds ranks No. 20 among quarterbacks in the 2027 class and No. 19 among California prospects. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback continues to stand out as one of the state’s top talents. With Edmunds on the roster, the Buckeyes could have a formidable weapon, especially if he continues breaking records as he did Thursday.
