After their rough 26–7 loss to Oklahoma, South Carolina fans got super vocal about preferring to see offensive coordinator Mike Shula getting the axe. South Carolina’s offense turned rough all season, with this game becoming the last straw for many people. The offense struggled big time, and “Fire Shula” chants echoed through the stadium, indicating that fans have lost patience. The situation is especially frustrating since South Carolina is now 3-4 on the season, with a rocky road to becoming bowl-eligible.

On October 21, the South Carolina Gamecocks had planned their protest to fire Mike Shula for poor play-calling and ruining LaNorris Sellers’ stock. Then earlier today, Gamecocks insider Noah Chast visited the ‘Fire Shula’ and gave an update about it on X: “Went to the ‘Fire Shula’ protest. It was about 20 guys huddled around. Eventually broke into a chant and marched down Greene Street. Ended in less than 15 minutes.” He attached a photograph of protesters at the rally crying for change. While it wasn’t an enormous crowd, it shows just how much this issue has spread beyond the stadium.

Yes, there are no doubts regarding Mike Shula’s ineffective offense, which became an issue for the Gamecocks. He was promoted to offensive coordinator before the 2025 season after previously serving as an analyst, but there’s been no return on investment in Shula. South Carolina’s offense ranks near the bottom of the SEC in most major metrics.

They are last in total offense, averaging just 308.6 yards per game. The Gamecocks’ nation has one of the worst OLs in the SEC, and their quarterback is paying the price with his health. LaNorris Seller is the most sacked quarterback in the SEC with a mind-boggling 25. The offense barely shows any signs of life in the red zone: they are dead last in red zone touchdown percentage, scoring a touchdown on only 50% of their trips. The team’s offensive woes were on full display against Oklahoma, where they only managed 224 yards.

The fact that Beamer had already fired another offensive coach just a week before makes the timing very complicated. Despite all the noise from the fans and the protest, Shane Beamer has said he won’t make any more changes to the coaching staff for now. This puts everybody in a tough spot, especially with another big game against a highly ranked Alabama team.

Fans voiced their frustrations, and it will be interesting to see if the team can turn things around or if the pressure on Shula will continue to mount. Even Shane Beamer knows things aren’t going straight at Columbia.

Beamer shares judgment on South Carolina’s 2025 goals

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer continues to feel the pressure as his team sits at a 3-4 record this season. He openly acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the program, saying, “I realize that I’m letting a lot of people down right now with the way that we’re playing.”

Beamer realizes how much the team means to the fans, the players’ families, and the state. “There’s a lot of people that live and die with Gamecock football on Saturdays,” he added, showing that he takes the team’s struggles personally and is determined to fix things.

The Gamecocks have had a tough stretch, losing four of their last five games, including back-to-back SEC matchups. Their next game will be a significant test, as they host No. 4 Alabama on October 25. Beamer isn’t making excuses but taking responsibility, saying, “I get it they’re not happy, and neither am I. I take that personally.”

South Carolina must win at least three of its remaining five games to make a bowl game. That won’t be easy, as the schedule includes matchups with top-ranked teams like No. 8 Ole Miss and No. 3 Texas A&M. The team’s most winnable game appears to be against Coastal Carolina on November 22. Still, the pressure is on.

With the fanbase growing restless, Beamer knows the team needs to perform: “We’ve got a lot to play for. We’ve got to keep fighting, and we will.” Hopefully, the team can fulfill the fans’ wishes.
