We’ve all heard about Matt Rhule and his Year 3 charm. But he is making olnas for Year 5 already. Rhule has consistently made splashes in recruiting cycles, always going for the big fish. His 2027 class has the chance to be loaded with the best of the best. That’s considering how strong his recruitment is turning out to be. One of those prospects just got a major boost, which means all the better for Rhule. This player is a Nebraska star! He is an unmissable target and is vetted by Dylan Raiola’s successor.
Everyone started to give Nebraska a second look after Dylan Raiola pledged to the Huskers. Elite players used to bypass the historic program, but not anymore. Rhule will have Dylan Raiola for hopefully two more years. And if that’s not all to give you a picture of his success, he also has the commitment of Raiola’s likely successor, Trae Taylor. The 2027 QB is the No. 1 player in Illinois and has also jumped up Rivals’ rankings for his position and is listed as the No. 3 QB.
Taylor is all in to be a Husker. And, he wants more guys to also give some thought to Nebraska football. Taylor is echoing the popular demand of Matt Rhule winning the commitment of the No. 1 Nebraska prospect, Tory Pittman III. The player is also the No. 2 safety of the 2026 class. Which means Rhule should roll up his sleeves to win the biggest recruiting jackpot for the Huskers. “I have said it from day 1 @ToryP_3 is a must that we keep home,” Taylor wrote on social media.

Pittman is already picking Nebraska as a favorite, which means Matt Rhule has to continue with the pace to keep his interest. The safety has been to Lincoln 7 times, which means Nebraska has had enough chances to drive their pitch home for Pittman. He lives just one hour away from campus, is the state’s best prospect, and is already leaning towards the Huskers – Matt Rhule cannot mess this up. “Barring a big upset it’s going to be tough for someone else to overtake Nebraska in this recruitment,” On3’s Greg Smith wrote.

But being an elite player doesn’t always mean that their local program gets to keep them. Which is why Rhule will be investing quite a lot to keep such a major win with him until signing day in 2026.
Tory Pittman’s 5-star rating has changed the setting a little for Matt Rhule
There is one major reason why Tory Pittman will be a steep climb for Matt Rhule. It is because the safety just got bumped in ratings. He has earned a 5-star rating recently, which means other players will be amping up their efforts. Pittman put forward two brilliant seasons at Omaha, playing on both sides of the ball. In the past two years, the safety has racked up 88 tackles and 5 INTs. He plays as a WR on the offense, where he hauled in 88 total catches for 528 yards. And that’s why Pittman earned his 5 star.

What’s your perspective on:
Can Matt Rhule's recruiting magic keep Tory Pittman III from the clutches of powerhouse programs?
Have an interesting take?
That means big players like USC, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and many more, who will also bring out their skills here. Pittman has already paid Baton Rouge a visit, and his relationship with the Tigers staff is also growing. But it will be tough for the Huskers to have a smooth ride and to win the favor of the best player in Nebraska. Pittman is yet to drop any clues about his college football recruitment. But Matt Rhule and Co. will be up there.
If Rhule is surely building a through-and-through, elite squad for 2027, he will use all the help he can get. Trae Taylor, who is all in on Nebraska, is also entering the recruiting fight for Pittman. Can Nebraska hold on to its highest-rated prospect in some time?
