How Does Matt Rhule’s Nebraska Contract Compare to His Previous Coaching Deals?

Rhule honed his craft under Al Golden and Steve Addazio at Temple from 2006 to 2011 before a pit stop in the NFL with the New York Giants. One year later, the prodigal coach returned, only this time, he was running the show in Temple.

Rhule’s debut season was rough, a 2-10 stumble, which happened to be the worst in the Owls’ history since 2006. But he soon turned the tables. In the second year, he left his mark by sealing a Vanderbilt road win and Temple’s first-ranked victory in 16 years, finishing the season 6-6. He gifted them two 10-win seasons, won an American Athletic Conference title, and saw time ranked in the national polls for the first time since 1979. In 2015 at Temple, Rhule drew a total pay of $648,633, which rose to $1,041,739 in 2016.

Then came his stint at Baylor. Just like the Owls, Rhule had a rocky start with the Bears, as they started the 2017 season 0-8. The very next year, Rhule’s magic worked as they started the season with three wins in their first four games, also their first Bowl game appearance. As per Rhule’s 2019 reported earnings, he drew $4,113,734. Now what about Nebraska?

We are yet to know the contract extension in detail. However, his first season with Nebraska would fall under the successful chapter category. A 5-7 record might not turn heads, but for Nebraska, it was progress, their first time topping four wins since 2019. So, the wait game is on for Nebraska to make the official announcement.
