The conversation around Miami this season will never be complete without discussing the surprise addition of Carson Beck. A particular part of that chatter is the money involved in the move. But what’s done is done. Beck is now a Hurricane, and all eyes will be on how he translates his Georgia greatness to this team. Now that he’s left Camp Smart, one of the highlights this season will be how Beck fits in with Mario Cristobal. “Our scheme fits him,” he told ESPN way back in February. But the HC’s hopes for him aren’t really matching up to the grandiose nature of this whole situation.

Beck, in his last season with Georgia, dropped somewhat from his 2023 stats. In 2024, the QB passed for 3,485 yards, scored 28 touchdowns, and had a career-high 12 interceptions. However, he couldn’t quite have a grand farewell for himself. His season-ending UCL injury has somehow become a defining factor after his exit from Georgia. That injury is now a big reason for worry for Beck, especially as Miami begins wrapping up spring ball for this year. With a limited presence on the field, how are he and the HC planning to work on his flaws? Also, there’s the whole filling-in-the-shoes-of-Cam Ward idea that will also be associated with Beck throughout this season.

Cristobal addressed the media heading into the Hurricanes’ last week of spring practice. And, much to his and everyone’s dismay, it doesn’t look good for Carson Beck. When asked if the QB will be able to throw this week, Cristobal flat-out said, “I don’t know.” With Beck not able to make those key reps this late into spring ball, the pressure would start growing as the opener nears. He had to undergo surgery to repair the UCL injury and is still taking part in rehab, according to Cristobal.

However, the coach also informed the press that Beck has been active otherwise. “I know he’s throwing some other things, you know.  He’s throwing those rehab… part of the contractions; those balls or whatnot,” he said. Cristobal added how else he’s making himself useful during this crucial time. He said, “[Beck]’s taken part not only [in] walkthroughs but also in team setting drills that allow him to hand the ball off. Goes for every progression. Stays up there and watches a relentless, or relentlessly watches film.” But the HC still has hopes for him despite declaring that he won’t be throwing in the spring game.

Beck’s injury seems to be the dominating factor in his role at spring camp. Even with Cristobal’s hope for the star QB, it doesn’t paint a convincing picture for us. Being unavailable this late into the off-season will definitely have an impact on Beck’s last season of college football. By the time he does make it to practice, Beck will have very little time to connect with the rest of the team.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Carson Beck overcome his injury woes and lead Miami to glory, or is it a gamble?

Have an interesting take?

Will Carson Beck be able to build a good dynamic with the team?

Carson Beck is one of the superbly talented guys that make Cristobal’s 2025 roster the top-ranking one of the year. He’s got some head-turning names, particularly CJ Daniels, to join him on the field. However, the problem is that as he misses out on practice, he’s yet to get some solid reps in with these guys. Dynamics with the rest of the players are built and seasoned throughout spring ball. With Beck still on the sidelines, some major concerns are rising concerning this thought.

Insider Bruce Warner sounds an alarm about Beck’s elongated period of absence from practice. “When Beck gets here, it’s still going to be the question—is he locked in with these guys? Are they on the same page?” The biggest miss would be failing to connect with CJ Daniels, with whom Beck can bring some serious thunders onto Miami’s opponents. The star receiver from LSU has already joined the camp and is taking on some big leadership roles. Daniels and Beck are a mix ready to create some magic. It’s the quarterback who’s compromising the match.

Beck has his issues to work on, as his 2024 interceptions were twice that of the previous year. With him still not being available for practice, doubts continue to rise about the capabilities of the star quarterback with Miami. Is Cristobal’s masterstroke slowly transforming into a gamble? We’ll have to wait and watch.
