Four-star prospect Legend Bey’s commitment journey has been a rollercoaster ride. After giving his verbal pledge to the Vols, he flipped to Ohio State in November 2025. Legend Bey wanted to be a Buckeye through and through. However, on the early signing day, he shocked everyone by flipping back to Tennessee. Now, we are learning that the whole process didn’t go as per the player’s wishes.

While nothing official has come out from either the Vols or the Buckeyes, Bey took to X two days ago to alert the college football world of what’s happening behind the scenes.

“Good afternoon, I was just recently logged out of my IG and probably will be logged out of this account as well by my older brother, who has access to my account because, I won’t sign to the school him and my mother want—Legend Bey,” he posted on X.

That was followed by his Instagram account sharing the commitment graphic of him going to Tennessee. Even the Vols’ social media handles announced the decision. Now, Rivals has revealed that the flip to Tennessee didn’t involve his consent. In fact, Bey’s mother allegedly forged his signature to complete the paperwork. Bey is still under 18, and he requires parental or guardian consent to ink his deal. But owing to family pressure, he ended up at Tennessee. His mom and his elder brother preferred him to join the Vols.

“We were told that Legend Bey’s mother actually went to Knoxville the weekend before signing day to meet with the Tennessee coaches by herself to pick up the paperwork,” analyst Sam Spiegelman tells Rivals. In the days following this, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and his coaching staff were there to watch Legend Bey in person at his high school game.

Legend Bey’s recruiting saga gained heat after he committed to the Vols in June 2025. It was on June 13 this year when Bey dropped by Knoxville for an official visit. At that time, instead of the Buckeyes, Mike Elko’s Texas Aggies were in hot pursuit. The Buckeyes had made it to his top five list. But Josh Heupel’s Tennessee secured his commitment in the following days. “I have great relationship with Coach Pope (Kelsey Pope),” he had stated.

However, on Nov 1, he visited the OSU vs. Penn State matchup and was impressed by what Ryan Day’s program offered. Following his trip to Ohio State, Coach Heupel and Pope visited him at his high school. Yet OSU remained unfazed and was able to flip him within 48 hours of Josh Heupel’s visit. He cited development as a significant factor in his decision to flip to Ohio State.

Can Legend Bey join OSU?

Going 40-dash in 4.33 seconds, the Buckeyes would have had an electric weapon in Legend Bey for QB Julian Sayin. Although Bey plays quarterback, recording over 38 touchdown passes and 64 rushing touchdowns (high school), Coach Day planned to use him for slot receiver, return punts, and in the backfield. No wonder Ryan Day wanted the Texas Speedster on his roster.

So, when Bey flipped back to Tennessee on early signing day, it came off as a surprise. Recruits often change their commitments. However, the unfolding of Bey’s commitment saga raises doubts about the authenticity of his decision to attend Tennessee.

On December 3, moments before his signing, he reportedly told fellow high school player Ishmael Johnson about his plans for OSU. Despite offensive coordinator Brian Hartline’s departure to South Florida, Bey remained committed, determined to join the Buckeyes. However, moments later, his eventual flip to Tennessee raised eyebrows.

Although the early signing period is over, Bey’s journey is far from done. 247 Sports‘ Mike Roach further reported that Bey is unhappy with his commitment to Tennessee and plans to change it once he turns 18 in a few weeks (on Dec. 24). In a TikTok comment, he shared that he will soon ‘Go Bucks.’

“I turn 18 in 20 days, so it most likely will be Go Bucks,” he wrote.

For now, Tennessee has said they would “not be opposed to releasing him from his paperwork,” making a return to Ohio State a very real possibility.
