It’s one thing to prepare for breaking LSU’s defense. It’s another thing when a part of that defense is dating your daughter. That’s the awkward subplot Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin found himself dealing with this week as No. 11 Ole Miss gears up to host No. 4 LSU in Oxford. And naturally, social media was more than ready to turn the romance into a battlefield tactic. So what’s Kiffin saying about this?

When Landry Kiffin publicized her relationship with LSU linebacker Whit Weeks on Monday, her dad didn’t flinch. Instead, Lane Kiffin cleared the air in an X post uploaded by Wilson Alexander on September 24. “Whit’s an awesome kid and comes from a great family. Glad those two are happy together, and, you know, it really has nothing to do with the game itself,” he said, shutting down the noise before it gets out of control. The noise that started with Landry’s IG carousel earlier this week.

It was a cute, innocent smiling photo with a simple caption, “Happy :)” But suddenly, Rebels fans were convinced LSU’s defense was running the best mind game of the year. Whit Weeks reposted the pic with a sly “Nice dude,” to which Landry replied, “Thanks bud.” It seemed like cute couple banter, but to the internet, it looked like psychological warfare.

That’s why pundits like OutKick’s Trey Wallace pounced. “I really love College Football Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, letting the public know she’s dating LSU LB Whit Weeks, 5 days before LSU and Ole Miss play? This is peak mind games,” he said. Lane Kiffin shot back with a 3-word response saying, “Take the over.” He means to say, can we just not overthink this and bet on my offense lighting up LSU’s secondary? And to be fair, he’s got reason to flex.
Ole Miss has scored at least 41 points in three of its four games, including a 45-10 demolition of Tulane last week. Lane Kiffin’s unit is humming, and if there’s one coach who won’t let social media define his game plan, it’s the man who once turned down Auburn because Landry told him to. Also, let’s not forget the boyfriend in question.
Whit Weeks is holding more than just Landry’s hand. He’s holding down LSU’s linebacking corps. The 6’2 junior led the SEC in solo tackles last year with 61, racked up 125 total, plus 3.5 sacks and an interception. Through four games this season, he’s logged 11 more stops and a half-sack.
Lane Kiffin even gave a nod to the Whit Weeks family’s SEC-friendly resume, pointing to their hunting trip feature on Any Given Saturday. Still, that won’t make Saturday’s chess match any less fierce when Weeks is staring down Trinidad Chambliss. And that’s where the story shifts from Instagram captions to scoreboard implications. Because family ties won’t matter when 60 minutes of SEC football kicks off in Oxford.
Ole Miss vs. LSU – SEC Perfection on the Line
Both Ole Miss and LSU enter 4-0, but their paths couldn’t look more different. LSU muscled through Clemson to open the year, then thrashed Southeastern Louisiana 56-10 after knocking off Florida. Ole Miss, on the other hand, has been scoring like a pinball machine, putting up 41-plus points in three of its four contests.
QB Trinidad Chambliss, filling in for the injured Austin Simmons, has looked the part. Against Tulane, he threw for 307 yards, two touchdowns, and added 112 rushing yards on 14 carries. If he keeps rolling, Lane Kiffin’s “take the over” line might age like fine bourbon in The Grove.
Vegas lists the Rebels as narrow -1.5 favorites, with the total at 55.5. Family storylines aside, this is a straight-up heavyweight clash. And if Lane Kiffin has his way, the only mind games Saturday will be the ones his offense plays on LSU’s defense.
