Jedd Fisch is wasting no time building momentum in Seattle. He’s already heating up the 2027 cycle after building one of the best 2026 recruiting classes in the country. The move comes amid the recent uncertainty surrounding Demond Williams and feels like an immediate statement from Fisch, whose relationship with four-star WR dates back to eighth grade.

The standout from Goodyear, Arizona, Zerek Sidney has been in the national spotlight for years, and on Thursday, he committed to Washington. The information didn’t come out of nowhere. From the beginning, Sidney had his eyes set on Fisch and his staff.
When Fisch and receivers coach Kevin Cummings were still at Arizona, Sidney received his first scholarship offer from them. He kept a close eye on their progress, including Fisch’s breakout 10-win season in 2023, which was Arizona’s first in a decade. When Fisch moved to Washington, Sidney’s relationships with the coaching staff only grew stronger.

“The relationship I had with the coaches, when I was in eighth grade they were my first offer, when they were at U of A I got that first offer,” Sidney said.
The four-star is especially close with Cummings, whose track record of developing receivers stood out over time.
“It was really crazy because I saw those coaches pick that team up with T-Mac and Fifita and then go to Washington and start building that program,” Sidney said. “It just shows the development Jedd Fisch and KC put into their players. No matter what university they’re at, they always have a good system and they’re getting people to the NFL.”

Powerhouses like Oklahoma, Arizona State, and USC were making offers. Still, Sidney’s relationship with Fisch and Cummings, especially the growth he personally witnessed in receivers, is unmatched.
Sidney happily selected the Huskies, stating, “The receivers he developed – Denzel Boston, I’m actually really close with Dezmen (Roebuck), we used to play on the same 7-on-7 team, so he knows how to get the most out of a kid. It just feels right, it feels comfortable being with coach KC.”

Sidney led Desert Edge’s incredible run to the 5A Arizona state championship in his sophomore year, hauling in 45 passes for 591 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had just four games, 11 receptions, and 111 yards during an injury-plagued junior year, but his size and skillful route-running kept him a top prospect.
While Sidney’s commitment gave Washington fans something to celebrate, it came during one of the most turbulent times the program has faced recently.

Inside Demond Williams Jr.’s portal scare
Everyone got a taste of how unpredictable college football has become during those few wild days in Seattle. In less than 48 hours, Demond Williams Jr. went from signing a massive new contract to stay at Washington until 2026 to abruptly entering the transfer portal and back again.
The Huskies were facing a potentially game-changing departure one moment after securing their franchise QB. Williams changed his mind at the end and decided to stay in purple and gold “after thoughtful reflection.”

Behind the scenes, this was about contracts and the shifting dynamics of college football. Williams reported a $4 million deal with Washington, and the school made it clear it had no intention of letting him walk.

One insider bluntly stated, “Whatever school he thought he was going to, it was going to get too hot for them to touch it,” hinting at potential tampering from rival programs.
And in Seattle, the consequences got worse. The entire 2026 QB carousel changed because of Williams’ temporary portal chaos. When news broke that Williams would be available, ASU’s QB Sam Leavitt was visiting LSU. That shift complicated things for Leavitt and LSU.

UW ultimately fought to keep its QB, but the incident served as yet another reminder that things move quickly in college football, and one announcement can drastically change the trajectory of several teams in a flash.
