Netizens are not foreign to dealing with the new mother conundrum of Deiondra Sanders ever since her baby boy touched down in the world. The entire Sanders family was over the moon on 9th August when Coach Prime’s favorite child gave birth to a child on her pop’s birthday. But, in a rear-view mirror, the journey was no less than a bittersweet trek to an invincible range. The 32-year-old’s pregnancy journey was far from typical. She went through a high-risk delivery fraught with multiple complications. However, with a mother’s spirit, Deiondra embraced the pain and persevered through it. But as far as her mental corollary was concerned, she was about to surrender. Thanks to her savior, her father, Deion Sanders, who, like always, fixed her nerves.
She had undergone multiple myomectomy surgeries, carried numerous fibroids, and had been taken to the OT with an underlying risk of miscarriage. But she couldn’t care less. Her mother, Carolyn Chambers, defied the prevailing maternal instinct. She asked her not to conceive out of concern for her child’s health. But overcoming numerous challenges, Deiondra safely landed Baby Snow on this earth. And in a jiffy, she felt all his first glimpses were worth all the precarious battles.
But the situation slowly and steadily took a U-turn. Within days of Snow’s birth, Deiondra started to fall victim to a very common yet very underrated motherhood hiccup. It’s dubbed as postpartum blues in medicine. There is still a chunk of a learned class of folks who are yet to get acclimatized to the condition. To draw a clear line between elation and reality, Deiondra detailed her episodes on the April 11th episode of The Baller Alert Show.

“I didn’t really think it was that real because I was like, ‘Oh, I have a lot of help, you know. I don’t think I’ll be going through it. But it hit me hard. I still had so much help, and I still have so much help, and it’s still thoughts that I’m like, why do I think like this?” Deiondra continued expressing pent-up frustration and guilt. “Even in the very beginning, I’m like, I feel like I should be happier. Me having a new baby, why do I feel like this? Different emotions that I had are very real, and no one really tells you how to deal with them. No one tells you that a lot of stuff you will feel is not real.”
Mothers are idolized in society. People instill in the belief that mothers can sacrifice everything for their children. They can never complain about their well-being in the process. The narrative inherently contains contradictions. Particularly when hormones become imbalanced due to significant physical and psychological changes, the situation can worsen. A lot of times, moms started to blame themselves brutally and unfairly for having weird thoughts and insecurities. It lets the depressive episodes come into the loop. All they needed was a little assurance. It’s okay to be concerned about the girl you were before being a mom.
Some people think it’s about the pressure of managing the baby alone. But for Deiondra, confession was a big eye-opener. It all lies in the psychology. “As a mom, I think one of the biggest things just for a new mom who’s never had any kids is losing your identity. And trying to regain it as a mother,” Coach Prime’s daughter made another big confession. Being an entrepreneur and a TV personality, it’s never wrong to care about your comeback and stress about the process.
Thankfully, Deiondra had her superhero dad by her side 24/7, constantly motivating her to turn the lemons into lemonade.
