The transfer portal attrition in Eugene isn’t coming to a halt. The Ducks have seen a massive exodus on their D-line, losing Matayo Uiagalelei and A’mauri Washington. Meanwhile, running backs Makhi Hughes and Jayden Limar have also departed the team. To offset the exits, Dan Lanning is now on to an Indiana running back target.

According to On3, Oregon has entered the mix to land Michigan State’s running back, Makhi Frazier. Pete Nakos reported that the player was visiting Indiana, and now Oregon is reportedly working to land a visit to Eugene.

Frazier has shown consistent performances in the 2025 season. In total, he rushed for 520 yards and received another 25. The 5’10”, 218 lbs running back opened the season with an impressive 103-yard performance against WMU and followed it up with another 81-yard performance against Boston College. Even against a blueblood like Michigan, the player didn’t falter, rushing for 109 yards.

Frazier is still a sophomore and has several years of eligibility left. Upon landing him, Dan Lanning could plan ahead and build his running room around the talented RB. But sealing his commitment isn’t as easy as it sounds. Auburn and Florida have expressed interest in Frazier, while several other Power Five schools are closely monitoring his progress. However, Oregon’s strong recruiting history could prove beneficial.

During Frazier’s high school recruitment, Oregon built extensive relationships with the RB and also offered him a scholarship. At the time, Makhir Frazier initially committed to Oregon State but eventually landed at Michigan State. Now, the question is whether Oregon can effectively leverage the pre-existing relationship. For now, Frazier has visited Ohio State and Indiana, and a trip to Eugene might be on the cards, given the program’s interest. Moreover, the Ducks need RBs like him, too, as Dan Lanning is going heavy on the portal.

Dan Lanning is rebuilding his running back room after the departure of three players

Oregon has already landed several players via the portal. The most notable one came in Dylan Raiola, despite having Dante Moore as QB1 for 2026. Other players like WR Iverson Hooks from UAB, OT Michael Bennett from Yale, and tight end Andrew Olesh from Penn State have also landed in Eugene. Additionally, DB Carl Williams left Baylor, while Bailey Ettridge and Keaton Emmott left Nevada to join him in Oregon. Despite the incoming transfers, a rebuild at the RB position is crucial.

While Jordan Davison and Dierre Hill are still in the backfield, three major losses can slim the Ducks’ depth. Dan Lanning has most notably lost RBs Jayden Limar, Makhi Hughes, and Jay Harris to the portal. Apart from Harris, the two RBs weren’t even available to play the Indiana game. A commitment from Frazier from Michigan State would bolster depth and help replace Jayden Limar’s 262-yard production in 2025.

Apart from Makhi Frazier, the Ducks are also reportedly targeting Kansas State RB Dylan Edwards. Dan Lanning recruited the player out of high school, and Edwards showed strong interest. Can we see Oregon finally circling back to land the RB? The move will be interesting since Limar has landed at KSU, making it a one-for-one trade.
