When Lane Kiffin stepped inside Oxford in 2020, Ole Miss pushed and pulled to become the team it desired to be. Yet, five years later, the result speaks for itself. Well, guess what? He’s in store for another award identical to Curt Cignetti’s with the Indiana Hoosiers. To everyone’s excitement, Ole Miss prepares to offer him a contract extension and keep him as the ship’s honorable captain.

After Penn State fired James Franklin, Lane Kiffin’s name kept popping up; even the Florida Gators seemed interested. That’s precisely why Ole Miss AD Keith Carter is taking no risks and following the proven path as Indiana. His move? Contract extension. “Of course I’ve been talking with Jimmy, and I’m going to be proactive with working out a deal with Lane and Jimmy,” Carter said.

“I’d love to get something done like Indiana did with Curt Cignetti before the silly season starts. We’ll see. I believe Lane’s happy here, but you never know what can happen with coaches. That’s why I’m being proactive in this process,” said Carter, according to a trusted website. After winning against Oregon last week, Indiana officially extended Cignetti’s tenure to an eight-year contract worth $11.6 million annually, which is $93 million.

As per USA Today, Lane Kiffin will make $9 million this year, which is sixth in the SEC and 10th among the highest-paid coaches. But that’s not enough, as his agent, Jimmy Sexton, is trying to make him the highest-paid coach in the country. It will be interesting to see what they come up with, as Kiffin signed a six-year deal in December 2022, which automatically extends every December 8. Moreover, this clause has been used twice, pushing his deal through 2030.

Look, Lane Kiffin has led Ole Miss to five bowl games. He won three of them in his first five seasons as head coach with two New Year’s Six appearances, and that level of success makes him eligible for a deserving extension. On top of that, a win against Georgia this weekend will put Ole Miss on the road to the College Football playoffs for the first time in the school’s history. There’s only one ranked team remaining on their schedule, Oklahoma, as Ole Miss is on a roll.

But what if better things come for Kiffin? For now, Ole Miss is only his destination. “If you just keep going and chasing, and you do that often, you’re missing things right in front of you,” Kiffin said. “You’re always listening and looking, and that’s been a really common theme in my life from a job standpoint and from a personal standpoint of just missing what was right there in front of me. So, I think I view that much differently now.”

Even if Kiffin aims to stay in Oxford, nothing’s set in stone. Thus, Carter’s urgency to get the deal signed, sealed, and delivered remains a top priority. With that, Kiffin’s off-field jabs will not stop anytime soon.

Lane Kiffin gets real on Kirby Smart

Everyone’s waiting for the most heated battle of the season, between Ole Miss and Georgia. After winning against an SEC powerhouse team last season, Lane Kiffin and his team are ready to repeat the success. Even Georgia’s making sure they come up strong, but Kiffin’s not just focusing on the on-field game but also on off-field jabs. We all know Kiffin loves to stir the pot with other SEC coaches. First, it was Hugh Freeze, and now, Kirby Smart is taking heat for his jokes.

When asked who burns the most calories on the sidelines, Smart or him, Kiffin didn’t think twice before making a joke. “I don’t know. That’s a good question. I walked by the TV and saw his press conference today. Doesn’t look like he’s burned too many calories. But he does have a lot of energy for games, and he coaches really passionately.”

Kiffin’s a health freak who often talks about lifestyle changes, and since he quit drinking, he also does yoga. So, it’s pretty clear Kiffin means he lost more calories and his mind is better. “I’ve given Smart heat before about the weight loss part,” Kiffin said. “He says he’s too stressed to work out.”

Despite the fun poking, Lane Kiffin also calls the two-time championship-winning coach “the best coach in college football.” Kiffin said, “He finds a way to win a lot of games, a lot of different styles.” One could say the mind games are on. Now, let’s wait and watch to find out who has the last laugh.
